3rd-Party Apps for 5E Rising From The Dead!

On a slightly unrelated note, the author of that one app removed Wizards-related copyright infringement only to replace it with Tolkien-related copyright infringement. <facepalm>

3rd-Party Apps for 5E Rising From The Dead!

The "Basic = OGL" oversimplifies the issue. The OGL specifically allows one to reprint almost everything word for word except for items specifically denoted as "Product Identity". So, to protect their IP, allowing the Basic Rules to be the defacto "OGL" in the way it was used in 3rd Edition...

    D&D Presentation from GAMA

Give that man the cigar. It's all about cross-promotion - MMO, novels, core product, etc.. There are no Greyhawk novels and there is no D&D video game set in Greyhawk. All of their "other media" content has been set in the Forgotten Realms. Their most popular characters (read: money makers)...

Fantasy Flight Games is Doing Very Well, Thank You!

I'm not surprised FFG removed actual numbers from their sales reports. So many companies in the game industry are secretive about their actual revenue if they don't have to report to public shareholders. I think what's most telling is that they were on a growth curve prior to 2011. However...

Design Your Own Miniatures With Heroforge!

Shapeways does their fulfillment (Hero Forge doesn't actually print any of the minis). One of my commenters noted that Shapeways uses the powder/binder process as opposed to the resin printing process. Resins might actually improve the durability of the output.

    The 5 Best D&D Miniatures

I'm not sure any of these would have made my Top 5. Mind you, they are good minis, but there were so many other exceptional ones, that these don't quite make the top 10 (though the dragon mini is close). The D&D Miniatures Starter set (2008) had a better Dwarf (along with the Fighter and...

Design Your Own Miniatures With Heroforge!

I'm going to be posting my review soon on my blog, but I can speak to this. I had the same thing happen and I was being ridiculously careful. My miniature also has narrow ankles, so it broke at the weak spot near the base. I would also avoid any pose that only connects the figure to the base by...

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

Accepted. I know how tone and intent is so hard to read on the internet. For my part, I will try to be thicker skinned as well. As I stated, I think highly of your efforts for the betterment of RPGs, so I did consider that there may not be any real malice. All's well that ends well.

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

You know, this post nagged at me the last couple days. At first, I brushed it off, but the more I thought about it, the more it seemed to be an unfair passive-aggressive characterization. It felt like an ad hominem attack to me (i.e. - My opinion is invalid because I am always negative). I am a...

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

To the contrary, I'm quite a positive person. But I don't hesitate to call a spade a spade, and frankness makes people uncomfortable... but it also turns page views. ;)

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

You'll likely disagree, but it seems like you are splitting hairs. Yes, you are correct in that the PHB and DMG don't have maps and references to a specific generic setting (like Nentir Vale), but if all the modules and other print materials produced are for a specific setting, to say there is...

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

My original point (also touched upon by others) is that if they are only publishing new materials set in the Forgotten Realms, then that is the default setting no matter what they say. ...Actions being louder than words and all that. Similarly, they could publish some non-FR Adventure League...

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

Crawford's statement is a bit of a dodge. Yes, 5e supports the "multiverse" concept, but all the Adventure League content and official release modules are set in the Forgotten Realms. That pretty much makes it the default because the adventures are tied to political forces in the Forgotten...

Is Chris Perkins Working On A New D&D Setting?

Pshaw. Nobody cares about the recent history garbage... especially the 4e retcon followed by the 5e re-retcon. Sure a few NPCs may have changed in the last 100 years, but the basics of all those countries are going to be essentially the same. Besides, anyone who plays a Realms game set after...

    More DUNGEONS DEEP Miniatures

Keep in mind "Colossal" is somewhat larger than "Gargantuan". Of the ICONS Dragons (WotC), the Red was Colossal (largest), while the Blue, White and Black were "Gargantuan". I'd be willing to bet the Paizo red dragon will have a similar scale to Icing Death (gargantuan white) -- a bit smaller...

Is Chris Perkins Working On A New D&D Setting?

Forgotten Realms regional source books already exist! Umm... you guys know that TSR already did this for huge swaths of the Realms right? And you can still buy them in PDF! http://www.dndclassics.com/browse.php?filters=0_0_44701&keywords=forgotten%20realms&affiliate_id=13584 Even though...

NaNewGaMo: Monte Cook Games Teaches You To GM

I'm interested to see where this is going, but somewhat underwhelmed by the content so far. I hope it's not: "Week 1 -- Read the first chapter of our rule book." "Week 2 -- Read the second chapter of our rule book..." I put out some ideas of how a tutorial format could be developed for...
