I found a enormous bag made for two laptops at a thrift shop, wonderful thing. I use it for my 4E hackmaster set. It manages to fit 2 PHBs, the DMG, the Hacklopedia set, Gawds and DemiGawds and even the Little Keep on the Boarderlands.

Did the players make any efforts to turn the foes against one another? One of the best things about using numerous and mixed amounts of lesser foes is it encourages players to try and mitigate their foe's numeric advantage rather than just kill everything.

What should also be noted is while the 5E giants are Huge, the 15' combat space is more of a suggestion. Even the official prepainted minis of giants are on 2" bases right out of the package and the DMG even denotes it's alright if a creature's base isn't the same sizes as called for in the MM.

Not really, the way a PC's CR would be computed would be as any other monster via HP, AC, maximum damage potential and the few other mitigating factors, measured over the course of 3 rounds.
