Roll Playing & not just rolling dice

Completely seconded. You know, it's scary how similar we think in some things? ... Scary. :)

    Encouraging players to role-play multiclassing?

You do realise that you are aiming for the best of all worlds here a bit ... :)

    Encouraging players to role-play multiclassing?

Seen it. :) In fact if the class customising tools are useful, UA would become a great deal more interesting to me than it seemed up to now.

What makes you happy as a DM

Anyway, I can't believe this thread is getting half as many replies as the one about annoyances. So here goes: Players who enjoy the game and let me know that. Players who say thank you. Players who bring a friendly atmosphere to the table and make no one uncomfortable. Players...

    Agreed. :)

Lost City of Gaxmoor - The Borderlands Campaign

Here's what S'mon explained about the seal on the letter: It was the seal of Duchess-Mother Freydis of Netloran. The Duchy of Netlorani lies east of Dulleaberg, it's the westernmost province of the Overkingdom. Just in case we run into her again. :)

Lost City of Gaxmoor - The Borderlands Campaign

As soon as plausible the group retires to its guest quarters in the South Tower to discuss tactics. A night attack is settled upon as the most likely course. Cailin hears shoes creaking outside the door and motions a warning; instants later Constable Hrethel knocks and bids them come into...

Lost City of Gaxmoor - The Borderlands Campaign

OK, enough with the clowning around. Story hour. :) Actually, this is sort of long, so I'm going to split it into two posts. Death in Arkand “Margrave Kanor of Gaxmoor sends us! Lower the bridge and let us in!” Fjorent snakes up to the rim of the pocket to look out. Captain...

    Spell Components--do you use them?

That's close enough to the default rule isn't it? - Under which all spell components that don't have a gp price put on them in the spell description are assumed to be available in the caster's spell component pouch. All the DnD groups I've been in have used that default rule. I've played...

What d20 Purchases to you Regret?

Oh yes, and I regret buying Necropolis. I hate Gygax's writing too much to ever try and muddle my way through that. I thought my DM S'mon was heroic in a way, to continue to run it for us for several sessions before we all agreed that we wanted out of it.

What d20 Purchases to you Regret?

Among the purchases I regret are my Malhavoc products. I don't know what it is - used to think I love the flavour, but I have never found actual use for a single spell, item or rule from any of them.

Have you played D&D in a foreign language?

And no, I don't particularly like the German translations of the core rulebooks (if they've translated anything else, I haven't seen it). I have to admit that as far as I can see the translations are consistent, meaning they don't change terminology midway without reason - a far too common...

Have you played D&D in a foreign language?

In Germany, I played and GMed in German (my native language). We used the English books and English game terms in one group, but German books, terms and metric distances in another. That could be a bit confusing for me because the German translation isn't always very close to the original...

    gaming group compatability

Do you feel comfortable gaming with them? Do they feel comfortable gaming with you? If so, don't feel under some obligation to either socialise with them outside the game or leave the group. As long as you enjoy gaming with them that's fine. Not that you couldn't recruit friends to start...

"Unscaled Adventures" -- good, bad or ugly?

Verisimilitude. I prefer a world that doesn't feel like it's entirely tailored around Our One Group of Heroes - much more realistic and exciting.

    Running Larger Games

Lots of great advice here already. One group of six players I GMed for hit on yet another tactic for speeding up combat: everyone would remember the person just ahead of them in the initiative, and get ready to go while that person was doing their turn.

    Midnight-Is it worth it?

Which channeler gift, lorebook or force of personality? Both depend largely on how the GM runs them I would think - could be very useful or rather miserably wet towels, depending. The channeler IMG is hermetic - I find the lorebook very similar to bardic knowledge, which while useful (both...

    Midnight-Is it worth it?

Aha. So when's that one coming then, if a poor GM may enquire? :)

    Body Counts?

Er, well, dunno about usual, but yeah ... :o :) I'm glad we didn't raise the count to 8 last session anyway. Dunno why I said that. :p

    Midnight-Is it worth it?

You're right actually, my apologies for overlooking that one. :o Technically speaking it was indeed that type of adventure - though my excuse is that it didn't feel that way because thanks to your GMing and also partly I guess due to our tactics, things were moving fluidly and dynamically...
