Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

Good point. :) Yup, it's being done to the extent possible, which right now is limited due to limited building/requisitioning capacities. (Or possibly due to boats being hoarded for some other vile purpose, who can tell... ;) ) There still are well-protected boats, but some newer ones used...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

Nice. Can salt paths. Can salt the ground around our forts. If want to start deforesting, can throw salt at riverbanks from boats...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

Aah. Fantastic! Fancy orcs actually planting things... Of course this also means that chucking burning pitch into the forest from travelling riverboats will tend to make the forest around there harder to burn in the longer term... Although all those elf-sown assassin vines will...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

It's an ancient forest. Many huge, ancient trees among the younger ones. Oh, and did I mention that in this setting elves have +4 on Climb checks in trees? Elves in leather armor travel lightly through the branches while orcs in scale mail and breastplate mostly bark up the wrong tree.

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

You'd have to tunnel deep to avoid those nasty trees' roots I'd say, but it's a nice addition for the overall strategy. Cheers for that. Burrowing down in a forest of course is even harder than cutting down all the trees. Everyone who's ever tried digging out a trunk of a bush or tree in an...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

Yup, the orcs of course do it anyway. Not that it helps much. :) Yum. Salt on the earth...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

Three main problems with road-building: Disorientation within the forest. Constant barrage of ambushes from the forest. Scarcity of supplies in stone slabs. (Seeing that dirt roads would be likely to vanish without a trace when no one's looking...) Not that I can see how stone slabs...

LOL. :D More mundane area effect thingies, please!

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

True in our case anyway. Orc crews row. Yup, as I've said (and as my Story Hour sig confirms ;) ), it's Midnight. Well, sort of. Don't draw hasty conclusions from those books, I'm making tons of modifications to the published material. :) Floating fortresses: Would be nice to have...

Yay. A wedding! Er... EDIT: So when are we expecting the first Little Grial? (Curse that displaced View Post button....) :p

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

:D Yup, true! My 'pologies. Grial? Who on a rainy day in a forest is Grial? :p As my players will be able to tell you once I let them in here, the current commander of the troops in the Felthera Valley theatre is War Leader Kraith. (I'm storing Grial away for special use.. ;) ) Yeah, and of...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

Hi Dir! Thanks for commenting. Although shouldn't you know by now that my game has little to do with what they write in those books... ;) (Speaking of which, I seem to be locked out of the repaired AtS forums, can't see any new posts since yesterday although I appear to be able to post...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

And more ... The forest: It's not a copse, ok, it's half a continent full of forest. Spreading disease and poison in one little bit of it isn't going to do much for us. There's spirits in the trees or something, that die in agony when we chop, ring or burn their tree. Many elves can sorta...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

Thanks for more comments, guys! Cool stuff. Dark Jezter - Cheers! Cool thread, yup, thanks to everyone contributing! :) More clarification and thoughts from the poor orcs. For those of you who insist on taking the keep :p : We're downriver from it, not upriver. I don't want to go...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

(Still pretending to be the orcs here.) Typical enemy small-unit tactics include: Shoot arrows (fire or non) at passing boats from trees, talann (wooden platforms in trees with railings that give cover, nasty things) or rope bridges. Block the river with vines or chains under water that...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

Ok, a bunch of ideas already, cool! Some comments and clarifications. I'm the DM. I'm giving you a specific setup of something the orcs are currently working on in the current campaign area. Although taking the keep would be nice, coping with the forest-fighting is more of a priority...

Defy elven forest-fighting tactics! (Now open to my players)

: Yup, now open to everyone to read. Including my Midnight players. :) --- Other tactical minds here? Yay. :D So here's the setup. You command an orcish legion - 1,500 Ftr2 orcs with higher-level officers plus auxiliaries, including a couple of hundred goblins, a bunch of ogres...
