    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

How is the AC at level 2 at 23 / 25 at level 3 or 4 lasting more than one turn w/o concentration? Also, not sure how you are getting con ST proficiency? The biggest weakness is that your INT is going to be really low; your spells will be very easy to save against. (Especially since you are...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

Note; Multiclassing is opt-in for a DM, so I like the idea that DMs are warned about multi-classing and what it can do. Ditto for Feats. Couple of things 1) You can't be wielding a weapon, as you need a hand free to cast spells and you already have a hand using a shield. 2) Going to have...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

I guess at L18 I'm not as concerned about a 25 AC character in terms of monsters & other classes. A Monk can hit 23 and spend a single Ki point to grant disadvantage with a single magic item (20 WIS & 20 DEX is definitely reachable, with 4 +1 stat boosts by L16 and a single magic item); A...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

Bracers of Defense only give you a bonus if you have no armor, so no 28 AC for you. Using Shield would eat up your reaction every turn, which takes away a lot of potential offensive power (see feat that lets you AoO with a single target spell). At L18, a 25 AC wizard is the least of my...

D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Linear Adventures and Sandbox Wishes

For an initial adventure; and especially one they are attempting to tie storywise across multiple games and books, I do not think sandbox makes sense. (Also, there's no Monster Manual. This could pose a problem for a sandbox game. I would not be surprised if the MM is still being worked on. :-p )

D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Linear Adventures and Sandbox Wishes

I think it is very, very difficult to do a sandbox as a published module. Too many possibilities to consider. Side note; my players are giving me grief because all of them appear in the playtesters list except me. On a related note, there was a TPK last week. :-p

D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Linear Adventures and Sandbox Wishes

Read through it a little closer, it felt like several of the episodes were pretty sandbox to me.

D&D 5E (2014) No update to Basic today?

Lol, fair enough. Honestly it will probably be this afternoon (PST) if it comes out today. WotC usually waits till around noon or so before they release things on the site; they don't have strict work hours IIRC for a given morning.

D&D 5E (2014) No update to Basic today?

This is where I point out that the actual release date of the PHB is ~two weeks from now? :-p

    D&D 5E (2014) Goodman Games Announces 5e Modules

I think WotC just may not say anything deliberately, to give themselves the ability to C&D a Pathfinder 2.0 for instance, while letting modules and other content slide by unopposed. Talked to the Frog God folks at PaizoCon; I think they just are pretty secure in their ability to legally...

    D&D 5E (2014) Finally

I believe it is only beasts; not anything else until a point where they can apparently do elementals? No dragons / any of those shenanigans.

I have learned that if I ever get a book early, I ain't saying a freaking thing. :D

    D&D 5E (2014) Feats / Multiclassing

Feats Yes / Multi-Classing No; Multiclassing will probably break the game, so the players should have a REALLY good reason as to why to multiclass. Most of the typical multiclass options seem to be covered in sub-classes (the PHB review confirmed the existence of Arcane Trickster and Eldritch...

D&D 5E (2014) Comment on the negative article by John Dodd

FWIW, I have the same group of kids do the PFBB and the 5E starter set. While they liked the minis and stuff of PFBB; the 5E starter set ended up appealing to them more overall. Part of it is that going from the PFBB to full Pathfinder is much more of a jump than the 5E starter set to the full...

D&D 5E (2014) The Ranger: You got spellcasting in my peanut butter!

Mearls did talk about that; there will be guidelines / rules for how to revise classes / make your own in the DMG AFAIK.

D&D 5E (2014) Updates on DMG / Magic Item Creation and upcoming player books from D&D Adventurer's League Handbook

http://media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/ADVLeague_PlayerGuide_TODv1.pdf Hrm...so splatbooks are moved into the upcoming story arcs? So a Cult of the Spider Queen Story Arc (picking an old one at random) would contain relevant character options for the story. Iiiiinteresting. Could the era of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Healing in 5E

It's funny, because no one wanted to play the cleric out of the group of kids I was running initially, and so one of them finally relented and did so. Once that player realized he controlled the life and death of his fellow party members (mind you, these are 10-12 year olds), the next session...

D&D 5E (2014) Criticizing the new edition of D&D (because I like it a lot)

Wizards has said they won't ever allow multiple concentration spells at once from their publications. As for magic items, that has been told to me as very rare or legendary items (artifacts basically). So not something you can ever expect to get.

D&D 5E (2014) Criticizing the new edition of D&D (because I like it a lot)

So far, in terms of problem solving, the non spellcasters have oddly enough solved most of the problems. But they're also less prone to overthink the situations. :D That said, I'm curious as to how it continues as we hit double digit levels, but the spells "known" and spells "prepared" bit...
