Scaling adventures that will include a higher-level NPC

I'd either reduce his level or 'fake' what he does. Remember that the PCs are the heros, and while he's an 'ally' he's in a supporting role at best.

Me too. I've been kinda not mentioning what the Rod could do in hopes they'd do it for DMG2. :-) :-)

    Illusionary traps

Hmmm... I have a bit of a problem. Coming up in the current adventure for our group, a 4e conversion of the Mud Sorceror's Tomb, one of the rooms involves an illusionary wall trap in which when the PC grabs a necklace off of a skeleton in a coffin, the skeleton grabs him, and one wall begins...

How we Speed up our Encounters -- what about you?

We gave this a shot last night. It did take the players a bit of time to understand why once the players who beat the monsters went, then the monsters went, it didn't matter what order the players went after that. Also, we occasionally had cases where no-one was jumping at going first. :-)...

    Healer's Sash question...why charge?

What's the point on charging the Healer's Sash when you can only expend a charge once per encounter?

Reskinning Demon Queen's Enclave (some spoilers)

I DM an Eberron campaign and the players are currently hanging out in Xen'drik. Seeing how the Demon Queen's Enclave adventure has had some good reviews I grabbed it. It occurs to me though, since Orcus is not the focus of the campaign, that I could reskin the undead in the adventure to...

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

I've dropped hp to 75% and upped monster damage by 1/2 per level. I'm not sure that's high enough though.

How do we actually play the game?

This is bothering me somewhat too. We've only had two deaths, and one of those was collateral damage from a fellow party member's spell. While we've occasionally had some dirt naps, they don't happen often, and it's almost always the defenders. I don't think the Warlock has dirt napped once...

    Converting 2e and 1e adventures

Well, there aren't a lot of monster encounters in this module, but lots of traps. Which is probably the tougher problem. With 4e, traps and hazards are considered basically another monster in the encounter, but in previous versions, traps were usually outside combat. The problem is having the...

    Converting 2e and 1e adventures

So I'm looking at converting a 2e Dungeon magazine adventure, the Mud Sorceror's Tomb. It occurs to me that there are a few things that make this a bit difficult. 1. Most of the encounters are with one or two creatures, at least in this adventure. I'm going to have to make things...

Roleplaying based penalties for Death. [Now with Examples!]

I have wondered if the current penalties for death are actually 'bad' enough as it is. A -1 to rolls just doesn't seem that bad to me, and the amount that it costs to Raise Dead doesn't seem that bad (at least it didn't at 8th level anyways). Besides, a -1 to attacks just adds more to the...

    Teleporting Weenies from Hell

I'm currently running a 4e game, with 6 PCs: Tiefling Warlock Human Warlord Dragonborn Ranger Eladrin Wizard Eladrin Swordmage Warforged Fighter The 'problem' is that they intentionally individually, but non-intentionally collectively have become the Teleporting Weenies from Hell [tm]...

    What's Mystara's Hook?

Maybe Mystara as a whole doesn't have a hook, but I'd think a Hollow World campaign setting would.

Do your PCs use Rituals regularly?

My PC's don't. We've been playing 4e for almost a year now, but they've only used Remove Disease (twice), Remove Affliction (once) and Raise Dead. I've suggested that they use them, especially now that they're 11th level and are capable of using some of the divination ones.

4e Monsters that scare the crap out of characters

They're 11th level and their classes are: Wizard Warlord Warlock Fighter Swordmage Ranger One of the key features of these guys is that they're teleporting weanies from hell...but that probably doesn't have too much effect on grind/getting scared. Although it does very effectively eliminate...
