D&D 5E (2014) Concurrent initiative variant; Everybody declares/Everybody resolves [WAS Simultaneous Initiative]

One question though: Why couldn't Vlad cast Shield again before the goblins made their second flurry of attacks? It seemed like more than one "round" passed between when he used his reaction, his readied spell (which seems to alternate between EB and Chill touch), and when the goblins attacked...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is morale used anymore?

I try to, but I forget to use it sometimes, despite knowing I really should. After all, my party got a well liked NPC out of me using it to have a hobgoblin surrender.

D&D 5E (2014) Retrospectives on the Yawning Portal adventures

Oh I wouldn't remind them if they forgot abilities, that's their job to read their character sheets. I'm more saying (assuming a smart player making use of their abilities), 5e PCs have a few more tricks up their sleeves than AD&D characters did. It's definitely moot if they don't use them...

D&D 5E (2014) Retrospectives on the Yawning Portal adventures

Just a thought, but how much easier will tomb of horrors be now that we have access to at-will cantrips (mainly Mage hand so we don't have to stand next to the door to set it off?)

Discussion - Tales From The Yawning Portal is Season 6

The last Dragon Talk episode, if not outright confirmed, it, at least strongly suggested that'd be the case, suggesting that the stories reached the inn from adventurers who found portals in the Undermountain that led to these places.

D&D 5E (2014) Retrospectives on the Yawning Portal adventures

In case anyone was curious how: According to what I've heard from Gary, Rob solved it behind an army of Orcs, while Tenser used his great intelligence to deduce that it was not a dungeon worth dying in.

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's Read: Volo's Monsters

And that can be reflected with class choice, couldn't it?

Tales From The Yawning Portal - 7 Classic Dungeons Updated To 5E!

What their studies suggested was that even if you homebrew, there were relatively few people that didn't at least relentlessly take bits from modules they liked, so they're still supporting homebrewers by giving them ideas to lift and make their own.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Faerun Maps?

2e Map with 3e locations, most likely. They mentioned undoing the scale drift from the last few editions, and if you look closely Mike Schley's 5e map lines up almost exactly with the 1e/2e maps.

Discussion - Tales From The Yawning Portal is Season 6

Possibly, or they'll be set in the areas around these famous modules, providing a bit more lore. There's a wide gamut of things they could do, I'm eager to see what it becomes.

Tales From The Yawning Portal - 7 Classic Dungeons Updated To 5E!

Problem is Arabel is in Cormyr, not the Sword Coast. It doesn't sound like wotc really wants to move away from the Sword Coast just yet.

Tales From The Yawning Portal - 7 Classic Dungeons Updated To 5E!

So I was listening to Dragon Talk, and they've explained why they chose the Yawning Portal name for the book. Apparently it's because the Undermountain is the most likely way for adventurers to be dropped into other settings from the Realms, meaning that the Yawning Portal is almost certainly...

Tales From The Yawning Portal - 7 Classic Dungeons Updated To 5E!

I'm curious if they didn't put Undermountain in this so that the AL team could cover Undermountain (while the title of the book allows for an excuse for the AL season to be about Undermountain.)

Discussion - Tales From The Yawning Portal is Season 6

They're stand-alone modules, no real overarching story between them. Against the giants sounds like it'll be the full G series, so we might see a bit of story in it. I've not read Citadel or Forge, so I wouldn't know how those work, let alone how they'll be adapted. White Plume Mountain has a...

Tales From The Yawning Portal - 7 Classic Dungeons Updated To 5E!

I'm getting the impression that they're doing the G series because of SKT, rather than despite it. It provides a side quest for your players to do while still being thematically tied to the overall storyline of fighting giants, and the nature of SKT allows you to easily drop it in at any time...

Tales From The Yawning Portal - 7 Classic Dungeons Updated To 5E!

I don't know if that's entirely the case. They might leave the locations as relatively ambiguous, allowing for DMs to more easily drop them in whatever setting they please. Personally, I'm curious to see how AL will handle this, as I doubt there will be a specific "storyline" this season. As...

D&D 5E (2014) Classic Products from the Last 17 Years

The only products I have from the 3e/4e eras are the draconomicon and Vor Rukoth. The Draconomicon is a fun book if you want to learn about dragons (including details you might not think of, such as how dragon hatchlings are raised) Vor Rukoth I wouldn't call a classic, but I am a little sad...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thirty-six views of VGtM

The PC section was really what grabbed my attention to look at the book in the first place. Admittedly I was also a little disappointed by how it was handled, mainly in the Monstrous adventurer's section, which had the races a lot of us wanted the book for in the first place. I still liked their...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thirty-six views of VGtM

I know people like the "relevant to adventuring" details more than little bits of fluff like the goblin Jester, but It's always a nice touch that helps the world feel alive. As for the races, I'm still not fond of how they handled kobolds and orcs (especially kobolds, I'd much rather a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thirty-six views of VGtM

It's a bit mixed. It's (supposedly, a lot of people leave out that despite being full of goddidit there's room for plausible deniability in VGM) the will of Maglubiyet that brings them together, but it's the glory of victory in battle that serves as the long term adhesive that keeps them...
