    History repeats itself

You had to subtract things that for some reason have a + next to them(eg magic armor bonuses or any AC bonus really. It also speeded play if you just subtracted your to hit bonus from your THAC0, again subtracting something that clearly suggests you should be adding it). If that doesn't...

    History repeats itself

I agree with you 100% on this one. I really am boggled at how little they are actually revealing as far as the mechanics are concerned. It leads to everybody who is pessimistic or remotely conservative about the new edition filling themselves with(probably unneccessary) dread about how bad...

    History repeats itself

No, they didn't say that. There's a difference between acknowledging flaws in an otherwise good thing(even mockingly) and saying that thing sucks. I love D&D. I'd rather be playing it than any other RPG out there. That doesn't mean I couldn't list at least a dozen things about the current...

Opinion: PoL and high tiers do not fit in the long run

There can be. Not all settings have to be that way though. I find it alot more fun to play in a setting where things I do will actually change the world drastically, where I can actually go destroy the god of evil or bring permanent peace to all the warring nations or whatever.

Opinion: PoL and high tiers do not fit in the long run

That's probably all true. I don't see why it's a problem though. Who cares what happens to the campaign setting once the campaign ends? Presumably that's what happens when the epic pcs destroy all the evil in the world. If the DM wanted the campaign to continue, he'd just add more evil to...

D&D 4E My compiled list of 4E's WoWisms

Because of this: A Fighter is a hearty warrior. Their role is to attract the attention of the enemies, to come between their blows, to take damage and deal damage. A Paladin is a hearty warrior. Their role is to attract the attention of the enemies, to come between their blows, to take...

    Halflings: An Identity Crisis

WotC seems to have decided to stop focusing their game on what was "cool" to fantasy fans 30 years ago, and start focusing on what is "cool" to fantasy fans right now. It's about time really. Very few people see gnomes as "cool" anymore, and thus they are rarely played. Halflings aren't a...

D&D 4E My compiled list of 4E's WoWisms

The names aren't arbitrary. They describe what the character does in combat. The roles are being given names because there are now multiple classes that can fulfil them. You'll note that "meatshield" and "healer" have been used for years by D&D players, because there's always been multiple...

D&D 4E My compiled list of 4E's WoWisms

In some cases, that is correct(which is why I noted that it's not relevant that some of those complaints were things that came from previous video games. They may have came from previous video games, but I doubt they would have been used in D&D if it wasn't for WoW). In others, not so much...

D&D 4E My compiled list of 4E's WoWisms

There have been so many things mislabeled as WoW-appropriations since 4.0's announcement, that it's quite credible to deny the accusations. WoW has clearly had an influence on 4e. I just don't like seeing people making false assertions to blame anything they don't like in 4e on WoW, or as...

D&D 4E My compiled list of 4E's WoWisms

I see you are one of the many people that believes that articles like this one(from the 2e era Dragon Magazine) http://www.darkshire.net/jhkim/rpg/dnd/dungeoncraft/dungeon_craft_01.html and others like it do not exist. Here's the relevant quote: So, what we have is a Pre-WoW article that...

Rich Baker on the Spellplague and other stuff.

Alot of people feel like that is a bad thing. Maybe it is. However, I'm not going to simply take it at face value and assume it is a bad thing without a reasonable explanation. Why is it bad to be able to kill a god? Personally, I think it's a pretty reasonable thing for a max level...

    D&D 4E How would you re-envision Darksun with 4e?

There was a trend in Second Edition(though I think it actually started in 1st.) They put the focus on worldbuilding and storytelling instead of gaming. Basically, they'd create an awesome setting with great npcs and full of cool things to do. They would then immediately proceed to have the...

    Heroic Tier "Prestige Classes"

Yeah, I've been using powers and talents interchangeably so far to refer to the same thing. I just default to calling it talents because the idea of fighters with talents seems to annoy the grognards less than the idea of fighters with powers. ;)

    D&D 4E How would you re-envision Darksun with 4e?

Well, I still think that "Gladiator" is a far more flavorful Dark Sun class name than "Fighter" is. I'd gladly just re-label the fighter class as gladiator. Dark Sun fighters have always leaned towards what the Warlord is in 4e. On the other hand, I'm thinking Bards could probably be rolled...

FR - details on the spellplague

Yeah, I was going to post about how I liked how they changed the burger to 100% beef and the mustard to dijon while still having the same great lettuce and sesame seed bun, but I got hungry and had to go get a snack. :\

FR - details on the spellplague

No, I think it's more like saying "I like hamburgers, but I don't like pickles. Can I please get a hamburger without pickles on it?" Apparently alot of people don't like pickles and Wizards decided that they'd be better off selling their burgers without pickles. I like the realms, alot. Used...

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

Here's an interesting quote from the WoTC boards about this subject: This plan has alot of potential if they stick to it.

    Heroic Tier "Prestige Classes"

I've got a theory on how the "class training" feats work out. Presumably 4e classes have talent trees like Star Wars classes have. I'm guessing a "class training" feat basically gives you access to one of those trees from another class. If that's accurate, I don't see any reason why you...

How Per Encounter power recharging should work

Yeah, but I'm also guessing you didn't open the fight by doing jump 360 roundhouse kicks one after the other until you were too tired to do it anymore. That's the way the system in D&D has worked up until now. They are trying to find a way to make people stop just spamming the same ability...
