Why is the WoW influence a bad thing?

The problem is, a fighter is only 5 feet wide. Unless you're in a 5 foot wide hallway, you can't actually block a monster from getting past you. You can probably slow them down a bit and hit with an attack of opportunity, but you can't actually stop them. Eating an attack of opportunity from...

    No full attack option?

Multiple attacks were always basically level based scaling damage for warriors, similar to a mage getting an extra d6 on his fireball every level, or a rogue getting an extra d6 on his sneak attack every second level. Problem is, it was a very flawed mechanic. Most importantly, it really...

    Why is it so important?

Magic isn't a wizard's crutch. Magic is a wizard's legs. Melee(or more sensibly a crossbow) is a wizard's crutch. It's something he should only be using when he's got a broken leg. There's something wrong with a system that regularly breaks a wizards legs and calls it part of the fun.

Why is the WoW influence a bad thing?

I like WoW. Making D&D more like WoW could be either bad or good depending on how they are making it more like WoW. Martial characters with a wide variety of special attacks? Sign me up. Fast paced advancement where I get to chose a new ability every level? I'm there. Finally giving...

D&D 4E Should hit points continue to be generated randomly in 4e?

Sadly, in my experience, what this guy is saying is pretty accurate. I can only remember ever gaming with one person other than myself that didn't mind point buy. Even she though would generally pick rolling over point buy when given the option. In my experience, what this guy is saying is...

The default campaign world - new article

This really sounds like alot of fun. I'd sure love playing in a setting like that.

    Death of Simulation?

I hope Gamism and Narrativism gank Simulationism and take it's stuff. :) Really, I recognize that a game requires a certain amount of simulation in order to suspend disbelief. I just think the amount is much lower than old school AD&D provided though. 3rd ed was probably fairly close to...

Why do YOU want a new edition

I want a new edition because I think D&D can be improved. 3.x was a huge step in the right direction, but it can still be done better. There are some things you just can't fix by patching the old system. To integrate certain things correctly, you have to do a new version. Manuevers are a...

D&D 4E Hate or aggro rules in 4e

Ahhh, okay. When I heard Feign Death, I immediately thought of the WoW hunter ability. My bad. It's actually nice to see someone comparing D&D to a different video game for a change, though I seriously doubt we'll see rangers with limitless arrows. :)

D&D 4E Hate or aggro rules in 4e

You are aware that bows in WoW actually do use arrows, right? Just helping you keep your anti-WoW stance factual. :)

Game Balance: what does it mean to you?

Character balance to me means that the worst character options aren't signifigantly worse than the best character options. Perfect balance is unattainable. Even if you could manage it, it would basically make your options meaningless. There should be some gap between the best options and the...

    Dave Noonan on WoW

I played WoW for about a year. I got tired of it a couple of months ago. The continuous quest to upgrade my gear got pretty boring. Ah hah! There's another area that D&D is like WoW! There's way too much focus on magic items in both! Oh wait. In 4th edition they are reducing the focus on...

    Target Demographic?

Wow. Explain to me why it is an unreasonable request to be able to do something in every round(presuming you aren't dead, paralyzed, etc).

    the "truth" about classes

Hrm, where are you getting the idea that they are trying to claim there'll be less classes? They've been openly admitting that they will be adding more classes as time goes on. About all they've actually said about having less classes is that there'll be less in the PHB, to the best of my...

D&D 4E Hate or aggro rules in 4e

I don't think we will be getting some mathematical aggro system. Seems like it would be a pain to keep track of. I do suspect though that we'll be getting "taunt" type abilities like the knight has. I think it's a good thing. It's the fighter's job to keep the monsters from slaughtering the...

    Turning D&D into WoW?

Good mechanics are good mechanics, no matter where they come from. Even if it is WoW. I guess if they want to please the anti-WoW people though, they are going to have to go out of their way to keep anything WoW uses out of D&D, no matter how good it is. I'll help them out: They can't use...

    Sacred Cows You Hope Die?

I hate rolling for abilities because I should have total control over the definition of my own character. Character creation is important. Your character is supposed to be something you enjoy playing both mechanically and personality wise. If you get a bad set of rolls, you are going to be...

    Which cows are most Sacred

This one was actually pretty hard. D&D just isn't the same without all of them. I put it into a hypothetical for myself, and asked if I could play D&D without each of them. It was tough. The only one that I could say that it absolutely would -not- be D&D without is dungeons. Dungeoncrawling...

    Turning D&D into WoW?

I really doubt they are saying that you -have- to follow the pre-written tactics. I can't see it being very different than the attack routines you've already experienced(and apparently liked!) in 3.5. Use them when you want, and ignore them when appropriate. If I was DMing, I'd probably use...
