D&D 4E 4E: What we think we know

Okay, I poked around a bit, and I've come accross official information that seems to contradict the whole "3 times a month" rumor: Originally Posted by randybuehler on the wotc forums: D&D Insider will cost more than a magazine subsciption but less than an MMO. The precise figure hasn't been...

D&D 4E 4E: What we think we know

Just how accurate is that "D&D Insider Package" shown on the first page? I followed the link to the source. The source is a post from November of last year on these forums, and seems far from official. Alot of the stuff listed seems pretty accurate to what we've been shown. However, I have...

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

Indeed I am. I got that way because of all my years of playing AD&D 2nd edition, which is of course the most intellectually useful version of D&D. Studies have shown that every session of 2nd ed you play increases your IQ by 5 points. Unlike the other editions, 2nd edition isn't a game meant...

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

The only real point the original poster made was that D&D has a different feel back in 1st edition than it does now. He then proceeded to imply that the old way is more intelligent and less juvenile than the new way. How, pray tell, is "lets pretend to be gnomes and magic-users!" less juvenile...

Why D&D Should Be More Like WoW

The idea of pushing back most of the character creation choices could work, in theory. The first few levels though would have to go by quickly. I'd say a level per session for about the first 5 levels would work. Problem is, most DMs seem to want to -slow down- progression rather than speed...

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

The "individual statements" people are homing in "unfairly" on are the thesis of his post. He starts and ends his post asking if 4th edition is going to be more "realistic" and "useful". Thus, if you want to respond to his post, that's the statement you respond to. He maintains that 1st ed...

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

The only "useful" thing you'll ever learn in D&D is that you use flames to kill trolls. It's surprising how often that comes up in day to day life.

How many changes before it goes from D&D to "d20 Generic Fantasy"

For me, the following are required to make it D&D: Dungeoncrawling. That should always be the main focus of the game. There can be other things to do as well, but D&D isn't D&D if you don't spend most of your time crawling through a dungeon(or temple, or forest, or whatever) killing monsters...

Anyone else think 4th Ed is to combat WoW?

Playing a D&D spellcaster is alot more fun than playing a D&D rogue. I'd be perfectly satisfied if a rogue had the amount of choices in combat that a D&D spellcaster did. Or heck, not even that much. As I said, Book of 9 Swords is exactly what D&D melee characters needed(aside from flavor)...

Anyone else think 4th Ed is to combat WoW?

What's so bad about these abilities? They are definitely WoW-like(at least the knight is, I don't recall how the other things listed work). However, saying they are bad simply because they are like WoW isn't rational. A good mechanic is a good mechanic wherever it comes from, as is a bad one...
