    New Legends & Lore

The new Legends & Lore is up with the poll results from last week. 70% of players would be dissatisfied with a return to the old "I hit it with my sword" fighter. 15% of players are variants of "I don't care" 15% of players are the ones that want an "easy to play" fighter.

Three Natural 20's in a Row

In the 2e days, I had a character with a vorpal sword. In one session, I one shotted every single monster I attacked with it. 5 hour long session, probably at least 15 monsters. It wasn't a continuous streak of 20s, there were lots of saving throws, proficiency checks, etc, I didn't roll a 20...

    D&D 5E (2014) Essentials: More like 3.9e than 4.5e (link inside)

I'm in 4th edition's target audience, as I'm a 4th edition player. They are taking 4e in a new direction, so I think it's pretty relevant to me. Especially considering that every D&D product they have announced for september forward so far is Essentials branded.

    D&D 5E (2014) Essentials: More like 3.9e than 4.5e (link inside)

For some of us, rules mastery = fun. Thus, saying "we want to make wizards more complicated than fighters again" actually is code for "now all wizards will be more fun than all fighters" to people like me. Reading this article again while I'm a bit less ticked off, I kindof see where they are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Essentials: More like 3.9e than 4.5e (link inside)

At the very least, they intend for the new fighter to be less complex than the new wizard. Do they also intend for the old fighter to be less complex than the new wizard? Do they intend for all martial characters to be less complex than the new wizard? Many of the people that they are trying...

    D&D 5E (2014) Essentials: More like 3.9e than 4.5e (link inside)

Actually, it's the one they were most explicit about: As far as not being "forced" to change goes, that is true on some level. If the existing content is roughly equal complexity to the high end of the new content, I have no problem. This is not a new edition though. I am going to be exposed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Essentials: More like 3.9e than 4.5e (link inside)

GROAN. I absolutely HATE this. They could have given into pretty much ANY demand of the non-adopters other than this one, and I'd have supported it, but putting every class on an equal(roughly) level of system mastery was by far the best thing they did in 4e. I enjoy tactical game mechanics...

Where Did All The Girls Go?

Yeah, this is a serious problem. I consider dealing with this problem to be FAR more important than trying to bring in women/girls who aren't interested in the hobby.

Where Did All The Girls Go?

Call it a pipe dream, but I would hope that one day our community will stop studying half of the world's population as if they were an alien life form, and instead just talked to them as equals a bit.

Where Did All The Girls Go?

When I talk with female WoW players about WoW, the aspect that they tend to focus most on is the teamwork(whether raiding or guilds in general). Whether that applies to all women or even female WoW players in general, I don't know. Men need to stop making assumptions about what women want, and...

Where Did All The Girls Go?

These are two very important points, and they are why I disagree strongly with the OP. You can't say with any accuracy that an entire gender wants less mechanically complex games. It is both a ridiculous generalisation, and it most certainly does not treat women as equals. The entire blog...

    GM Issues..

Can it be fixed? Depends how much the GM means what he says. There isn't alot you can do as a player. Perhaps make note of when he makes these mistakes and bring them to his attention(not in a confrontational manner). It's possible he just doesn't recognize when he's doing it. Also...

Where Did All The Girls Go?

Every long term gaming group I've ever played in has had at least one woman in it. I think your assertion that crunch factor and combat turn them off is HIGHLY innaccurate. I've played with several female powergamers over the years, and never has any woman suggested to me that a RPG is too...

    The Rogue Guide ?!?!??

It's probably still possible to build a Fighter that does similar damage to a Rogue. It's not as bad as it used to be though. Really, Rogues look pretty solid when you compare them to any class but Ranger or Fighter. That has more to do with the Ranger and Fighter than it does the Rogue though.

    Why arn't Controllers Sexy

For me, it's not really that the controller role isn't sexy, it's just that all of the existing controllers have something I don't like about them. Wizards, Invokers and Druids: I don't enjoy rping the themes these classes bring to the table. Psions: theme is fine, mechanics unneccessarily...

Gabe of Penny Arcade Slams the OSR

I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least a couple dozen MW2 players that are active participants on these boards. I play MW2, as do about half of the D&D players I know locally. Both are mission focused team games with persistent characters which you can customize and advance, so there's some...

What's really at stake in the Edition Wars

The HP system present in any version of D&D requires massive suspension of disbelief. Healing surges are no different.

What's really at stake in the Edition Wars

Consider me the first then, because that statement annoys the heck out of me. Class roles have been an important facet of almost every version of D&D. Don't give WoW credit for this, as this isn't a case of D&D being like WoW, it's a case of WoW being like D&D. Which is true of almost every...
