Which old TSR settings are you *still* playing?

Running Planescape's famous Dead Gods mega-adventure, and it's great. Nothing beats Planescape for flavour and fluff. Count me in as a raving fanboy.

    Most powerful undead?

Well, since we're talking Orcus here, why not Tenebrous, the horrible, shadowy, un-God version of Orcus that appeared in the Planescape adventure, Dead Gods? He made undead out of demons!

    "Planar Handbook" - completlely useless?

The Planar Handbook is far from useless. It's mostly crunch with some setting flavour thrown in with the touchstone entries and the descriptions of the planar metropolises. I'm a big Planescape fan, but I liked this book. It had a lot of new ideas, especially as regards to statting out things...

    Campaign Settings II

Planescape, Dark Sun and Greyhawk. Those were all great worlds. It's amusing to see that Planescape is ahead of both WotC flagship products: Eberron and Forgotten Realms. Maybe that should tell the marketing folks something, if ENWorld is representative of the gaming community. :D Go, Cagers!

Which 'Campaign Classics' would you buy?

Gah! Forgetting Planescape, that's, like, the number 1 people's choice for a setting resurrection. I pick Planescape, Dark Sun and Greyhawk, though I would prefer Planescape original and not after the Faction War.

The Planar Handbook - Merric's views (in a rambling way)

I agree with your sentiments, Merric. However, as a still-playing Planescape GM, I found both the MotP and the PlHB to be mainly rules, with some interesting flavour thrown in. The Planar Touchstones are good, but not nearly as interesting as some of the places described in the Planescape...

Anyone have Beyond COuntless Doorways yet?

So how well does this product integrate into a Planescape game? I'm a DM running with a group on the Great Wheel. Is this a useful product for me?

    Planar Handbook Chat Log

Dangnabbit, I missed the chat because I couldn't log in. Too bad about modrons. I was never partial to them myself, but the little critters grow on ya, and they worked quite well in Planescape Torment. Well, at least that's settled then. Planescape isn't coming back, Hell or high water...

    Planar Handbook Review (Broad)

Thanks for the info. Looks really good. How much detail on the planes themselves, and could you give some examples?

    Hey Planescape/Monte Cook fans - c'mere!

    1. Have you considered ways of travelling between planes other than portals? 2. How important will philosophy be in setting a leitmotif for your worlds? 3. D&D planes were often based on mythological places, albeit changed (and sometimes misinterpreted). Will your worlds be completely original...

    Popular Campaign Settings

Planescape definitely rocks. It also has the added bonus of allowing play in *any* other published or imagined world, built right into the setting. You're expected to travel to weird planes all the time, so you can visit Mystara or Dark Sun if you like. Some of the best features of planescape...

DRM limitations (merged with "why DRM sucks")

Looks like Mr. Cook is already taking my advice and partly backing out of this DRM nonsense. Y'all should follow his stellar example, considering that he's the sharpest tool in the shed in the e-publishing business. Customer feedback is democracy-in-capitalism. Gotta love it.

Will you be purchasing PDFs from DriveThruRPG?

No, won't buy anything that takes away my legal right to do whatever the heck I want with a product I legitimately bought. I don't see why I have to jump through umpteen hoops and experience hassles and additional technical problems purely for the benefit of the publisher, who thinks that DRM...

DRM limitations (merged with "why DRM sucks")

Actually, the situation is almost exactly the same. TSR was attempting to restrict use of its trademarked (ie: legally protected) material through a technological solution that restricted their customers' rights. Remember mpgn.com? You are attempting to restrict use of your copyrighted (ie...

Update: Malhavoc PDFs no longer available at RPGnow (merged)

Damn funny though. I have to agree with him. The only way epublishers will get people to use DRM is if they force them to do so by telling them they can only buy from this one location.

DRM limitations (merged with "why DRM sucks")

Wow, games industry tries to shoot itself in head, misses, then tries to shoot itself in heart instead. If you think DRM will prevent your files from showing up on Kazaa and DC++, you're quite wrong. It will simply inconvenience your customers to no tangible benefit to yourself. Unless you're...

Which was your favorite setting from TSR/WotC?

PLANESCAPE. The best presentation and storytelling of all the worlds, coupled with some fortuitously fantastic drawings and paintings from DiTerlizzi, made this setting perfect. And, you can essentially travel to any other campaign world if you feel like it. However, I don't think a 3rd...

    Planecape recommended viewing

How aboot: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and Time Bandits, both by Terry Gilliam. They have just the right themes of interdimensional travel, exploring new worlds, fighting (or running away from) God(s), and wacky steampunkish or renaissance cities and decor. That's planescape for me...

For Immediate Release - CyberNet: 2087 (TM)

It would be nice if this cyberpunk world updated some of the common stereotypes of the genre to the 21st century. Please, please, no ginormous japanese megacorporations or decaying rustbelt industries. Read something other than Gibson and Sterling. If this is simply Generic Cyberpunk World #5...
