People seem to forget that new players often enter the hobby via recommendations from friends, some of them online. The forums I frequent get a lot of questions along the line of "hai guyz i want to play some dnd, which edition should I get" and most responses until recently were "PF or 4E". Now...

He's absolutely right. D&D was never very good and now 4E is a just a bad skirmish game with nonsensical boardgame rules.

Though I was never a huge fan of 3.5, WotC's 4E marketing campaign was quite insulting. They "fired" their existing customers and Paizo snapped them up with superior customer service, great production values and good deals. That was a huge mistake on WotC's part, and one they're now trying to...

Since my original reply was eaten long ago by the great Database Crash Dragon, I'd like to once again bump this thread and thank mmadsen (and Mr. Ratecliffe, of course) for bringing these books to our attention. This list rekindled my love of fantasy at a time when I had grown bored of it, and...

Nice speed upgrade. That's great. The new look is not very good though. Having to click through to a new page for each news item, no matter how minor, does indeed defeat the point of a news page. It's very annoying. Looking forward to the new skins, as the current one is...not pretty.

I'd like to be playing Pathfinder by the end of 2008, but it's not really up to me.

I own the original DG, and I used to hang out on the mailing list a long time ago. Even had a DG minisite up for a while. Neat game, never really got the chance to run it though.

Own it more as an investment and reading material than anything I'd ever run, but it is fun to skim through.
