Ultimate Rifts. Improvement or Same Old Stuff?

So for those of you who have experimented with converting Rifts, what system seems to work best? d20 Modern d20 Future d20 Mecha Mutants & Masterminds Spycraft BESM Something else? All of them?

    The Canadian National Expo—Great Fun!

Well I'm glad you liked our little metropolis of the North, Mr. Gygax. My friend was looking for you on Sunday but I guess he missed you (he's playing in Greyhawk now and I had just told him about the Egg of Coot). The Ex has been a tradition here for quite a long time, and gaming/anime/sf...

Ultimate Rifts. Improvement or Same Old Stuff?

Hah! That's funny. "M&M. The un-Rifts cola!" I'd buy a d20 Rifts book, but I think something like BESM would be best suited for that kind of patchwork, high-powered game world.

    Greyhawk - Realworld Regions

The Suel seem to be the Nazis/Imperial Japanese of the Flanaess. Strange how a lot of them have pseudo-Chinese names. The Land of Black Ice seems to have an Aleutian/Inuit feel to it, while the Pale has something of the feel of Puritan England without the Restoration. So what are Ratik, Geoff...

    Future of Dungeon/Dragon magazines

I *hope* that's a typo of ontology. Still kind of weird though... "Issue 315 was a campaign classics theme - tried to do article for every campaign settings TSR had done. Frequent letter/message boards request is about canceled campaign settings. Now the answer is every Jan. will do campaign...

    Free background music for games

Well, I collect strange ambient/electronica/choral stuff like Wim Mertens (Belly of an Architect), Philip Glass (Einstein on the Beach), Michael Nyman (Prospero's Books), Jeff Johnson (A Fiery Mountain), Scanner (for cyberpunk games) and Biosphere (for the creepy underground stuff). Shinjuku...

    Free background music for games

That's some great stuff. Thanks for making it freely available. I use music in my games all the time, and it does add atmosphere even when the players don't all like it. There's this one ambient tune that still makes all my players shudder because I played it during a particularly harsh...

Products You'd Like WoTC to do

A Greyhawk hardcover would be great. I'm not sure about a Planescape hardcover, even though I'm a big fan. WotC would probably make it a crunch-fest and, if the Planar Handbook is any indication, a munchkin powerfest as well. The original PS books are about as good as D&D got. I find it hard to...

    Tired of "Mana"

I use the terms Spirit and Soul in my (custom rules) games. Everybody seems to understand the meaning and the words are different from magic points or mana. Prana or pneuma would be good too. Storyteller has quintessence, or tass for short.

Minis and Grids, do you use them?

Never use miniatures. I detest the little buggers. I have an experienced and mature group and we play without AoO, in fact, without a lot of the D&D tactical baggage, so combat is much more fun and quick than in a regular d20 game. Using our imaginations is more work, and sometimes there is some...

    "PCs usually die of stupidity"

LEEERRROOOY JENKINS! http://z.wimp.com/v/leeroy.wmv For my group, it's usually a Leroy Jenkins moment when somebody just snaps and goes bonkers on the monsters and/or NPCs. Sad, really. I guess some of the guys are a little high-strung in their jobs. It's a rare occurence though. The...

What would you like to see dropped from Dungeon?

I like Downer, and in fact it IS one of the reasons I subscribed (Greyhawk map and the first adventure path are the others). Erik is correct in saying that it's like Wormy. It adds a visual and human element to what can be rather dry-looking adventures. It has interesting characters even though...

Myers-Briggs Personality breakdown of ENWorld members

Well you would, wouldn't you? Because you're an INFJ like me. Welcome home, brother! ;) And it does say on this page (http://www.infj.org/infjness.html) that we "love personality tests and other self-improvement tools" I feel so...used.

Myers-Briggs Personality breakdown of ENWorld members

Ooh, I love zombie threads. INFJ (Counselor Idealist) here, the rarest kind. That explains a whole damn lot. At least there are a few more of my type here than in the general population. Keep in mind that these often "describe you to a 't'" because they're so vague...and flattering. If a type...

    A DM's Directory of Demiplanes

Thanks, that's useful. I think Portals & Planes is what I want, from the description.

    A DM's Directory of Demiplanes

Ditto for the planar book comparison. I'd like to buy one but I can't get them straight in my head. Which one is truly the best among them? Which one comes closest to capturing the Planescape feel?

    1421: The Year China Discovered...

There's a debunking of this fusang postulate here: http://www.kenspy.com/Menzies/ Colour me unimpressed by the book. There's a lot more historical and archaeological evidence to support the silly claim that the Egyptian Pharaohs won every single battle they ever fought. Imperial cultures tend...

3.5 Stat Blocks Kill my creativity

I agree that proofing all the stat blocks to make sure they well-matched to the PC party is a long and tedious task, one for which I have very little time as an adult. As a college student I loved all the stats and could spend hours on them. Now I barely have time to review the plotline before...

Why do most groups avoid planar games?

I think you have brought up a very legitimate problem in Planescape. As a PS GM myself, one who has run low-level and medium-level campaigns in this setting, the "sense of place" problem has come up before. The players sometimes feel like they are drowning in an ocean of exotic places and weird...

Which Campaign Setting has the best fluff? Why?

Planescape: the most fantastical of all D&D worlds, where dreams spring into reality, belief shapes the landscape and everything is possible. Some of the best TSR writers worked on this setting and its shockingly free of crunch (by today's standards). It's so fluffy some of the books are like...
