    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Others have already mentioned it, but the fighters ability to attack a foe that shifts is not an opportunity attack, so his ability to stop the movement doesn't trigger. However, those two abilities combined make the fighter able to stop foes or make them think twice about moving.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

This example I ran all by myself to demonstrate most of the aspects of 4E combat as we know it. However, in an actual playtest that I've run I've used different color poker chips to represent bloodied condition, and players that can mark have their own colors. Plus you can write right on the...

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Well it took a long time to type out but I wanted to explain things so people could see everything in context. However, having run several 4E combats, they run much faster than 3.5 and are much more tactically interesting. Everyone has a wide range of options available to them. The marking...

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Round 4: Kobold Skirmisher: Okay the skirmisher is in trouble, but tries to use a minor action to shift around Kathra and into flank with the minon. This triggers Kathras’ Combat Challenge ability and she gets to attack the Skirmisher. Roll 5+6=11 not good enough to hit the skirmisher. The...

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Round 3: Kobold Skirmisher: Uses a move action and moves up to Kathra and attacks with his spear. Roll 18+6=24, definitely enough to hit Kathra. Damage is 1d8. Roll 3. Kathra takes 3 damage, the first 2 points coming from the temporary hit points Erias granted her in round 1. Kathra is now down...

Melee attack with spear is d20 +6 vs Kathra’s AC. Roll 8+6=14, not good enough for our poor Kobold...

    Sidewind Charging, driving me nuts.

From what we know a rogue isn't able to sneak attack with a reach weapon. It may be possible by taking a feat or two. Unknown at this point.
