How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

They elected him. Sorry, but it’s true. All I can say is that two of my favourite miniatures companies are in the US, and it’s very hard for me to support any American company right now because it feels like rewarding a government that is openly hostile to my country even existing. So I am...

D&D's The Book of Dragons Comes Out in August

Me too, so I asked ChatGPT for help: Tiamat’s Journal – Entry #987,904 Bahamut gets a statue and I get another mortal summoning with bad lighting. Ugh. Tuesday. Woke up in Avernus. Again. Honestly, I thought being imprisoned in the Nine Hells would have more flair by now. Same sulfur. Same...

    D&D General Dwarven Vikings

Vikings were a specific cultural phenomenon - one that came from my ancestors, in fact (that photo is me on a dock in Denmark last summer, on my way to visit my family's home in Sweden). So to me it is weird to discuss dwarves being Vikings, kind of like discussing dwarves being Romans or...

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

Was Gygax a creative genius? If you look at his most impactful contributions, virtually all were iterations on work other people had started. Greyhawk, including (we now know, though he never admitted it) the pivotal Fantasy Supplement were iterations, often very close iterations, on work that...

The Breakdown of Gen Con 2025 RPG events

My best buddy and I had tickets to the con and the Critical Role live show booked, along with a great hotel, and we canceled all of it a few weeks ago. Sucks as it's been on our bucket list since we were thirteen, but as Canadians we just couldn't feel good about traveling to the US right now...

The price of streaming vs out right owning

Also, that’s not a sub. That’s an instalment plan. But yes, as OP demonstrates you do need to be sensible when buying subs, like anything else. If you are paying for a sub you barely use…maybe stop?

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Yeah, I gotta fix that. It's Bones 6, so Bones Black, I think, but you still get some bending if it is packed wrong.

    D&D 5E (2024) Suggested Wildshape tweak (houserule)

Seems like a good suggestion. 2024 Circle of the Moon druids need a lot more help, but that little tweak can't hurt.

eBook Prices - Is it just me…

You're wrong. At least for budget, it's not remotely close. I have saved thousands of dollars. And that's without putting a price on storage, environmental costs, etc. Or let's look at music. I recently donated a collection of well over a thousand CDs. That's $20-30,000 in sunk costs. Whereas...

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

She owned both. If TSR made money, she made money. I think a lot of folks remain unclear on this point. She wasn't trying rip off herself.

D&D General WizKids Issues Refund for Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Boxed Set

Those are stamps not painted, but yeah, they look good. They're often not as perfectly lined up as that, so those are two of the better ones.

    D&D 5E (2024) Modest Ranger Fix

Compare to the monk capstone: +4 to Wisdom and Dexterity each. So that's +2 to attack rolls, DCs, damage rolls, saving throws, and +4 AC (!!!). Whereas doubling hunter's mark is an extra +3.5 damage, on average, for a class that is already on the weak side of DPR. It's still not that great a...

eBook Prices - Is it just me…

I like bookstores. I have a shelf of vintage books in my classroom. Sometimes I just like a physical book (the new Monster Manual, for example). I think if you completely prefer physical books and like having a library, there isn't much of a question about eReaders. By and large, though, I see...

    D&D 5E (2024) Our book just launched on D&D Beyond - AMA

Alas, it's the DDB combination that really works for me - I use it along with maps for my D&D Club at school as it's so convenient when few of the players have any game materials. I have tons of miniatures and modular terrain for my home games, so I don't need physical battle maps, even ones as...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

I'm not sure that D&D is particularly better or worse in itself for neurodivergent kids - it's a pretty crunchy game, so that can work well for some but be really offputting for others. However, with ND kids a big goal is typically to help them establish a friend group, and D&D's ubiquity really...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

And this is based on your years of experience teaching young teenagers to play RPGs in weekly sessions, running D&D camps for neurodivergent kids, etc.? If so, I would love to hear your reasoning. Here is mine: from what I have read here and elsewhere, Daggerheart, narratively, seems much more...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

My sense of Daggerheart is that it asks for a lot more RP chops than is typical of a teenaged beginner. As well, part of the reason for teachng D&D is because it's so ubiquitous, and the players will be able to leave my campaign and go join or start another.
