D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing Vecna: Eve of Ruin *SPOILERS*

Right? Especially since WotC has already done a deal with Stranger Things. This entire adventure seems to be built assuming that the players will be significantly composed of giant nerds like us who immediately recognize why Brynn is significant, etc.

D&D 5E (2024) Some Terms Removed From 2024 SRD... But Is 'D&D' Really Supposed To Be In There?

I would assume that this means you can now use the term "D&D," but not the logo?

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

To clarify, Dungeons and Dragons products are probably okay. Hasbro is screwed if this continues. They're a toy company, and most of their product is injected molded plastic, which almost all comes from China and can't be done in the US any time soon. Hasbro was already struggling, prior to...

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

Joel's death certainly hit my spouse hard; I didn't warn them it was coming.

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

I love how so much of Part 2 is told from Abby's perspective - I think that's what makes the revenge theme hit so hard. From her perspective, Joel is a monster, and it's not like she doesn't have a point. Having the player play from her PoV was a bold choice and I love it!

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

Their American customers. China isn't the only country that the US has launched a trade war against...

D&D General How would you make "finding out how to break the spell" interesting?

I don't suppose you own the boardgame Quacks of Quedlinburgh? What if the players have to successfully brew a restorative potion using the rules of that game? But that only works if failure is an option. Edit: like, what if the potion is almost impossible to brew unless the players can use...

    The Good Sandbox Thread [+]

I run every campaign as a sandbox, trying to build story hooks out of what the players give me, and then adapting as they make different choices or things unfold in an unexpected direction. I also use random events generators, some of which have led to multi-game adventures as the players took...

The Last of Us (HBO Max)

Huh...I think the series works because it almost lives up to the standard of the game. Part 2, in particular, is a masterpiece, IMO.

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Loot Tavern, Hit Point Press, Nat Two Press, and more

Thought more on this though...and a setting based on Egyptian culture without any Egyptians involved...not sure how I feel about that.

D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing Vecna: Eve of Ruin *SPOILERS*

Yeah, the underlying concept is cool but the execution is dumb and lacks meaningful stakes. I completely reworked it to make it meaningful to the party, I added in Hawkins from Stranger Things as the only locale/Vecna that anyone in my group aside from me would know anything about, and I...

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Loot Tavern, Hit Point Press, Nat Two Press, and more

Wise. I'll never back another first time KS - been burned before. I didn't realize it was their first time - thanks for the head's up.

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Loot Tavern, Hit Point Press, Nat Two Press, and more

That Pocket RPG campaign is very interesting to me. It's very ambitious - trying to miniaturize and make portable miniatures-based gaming. That's my passion, and it's a side of RPGs that goes back to their beginning, so I am rooting for them. Seems most likely to be a novelty, but I hope I am...

    Our Physical Fitness

My pec injury turned out to be the intercostal muscles of my rib cage, which is good in terms of recovery time, but bad in terms of pain, specially during allergy season. My workouts are now half physiotherapy.

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

That's where I was coming from, too. It's not my personal favourite, even though I do love it and play it. Speaking of behemoths, I think Lord of the Rings is both over and underrated. I think critics tend to underrate it and fans tend to overrate it (this is true of a lot of pop culture...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 - Do magic weapons bypass resistance now?

Sorry, I was focused on reality rather than theory. In reality, as many folks have expressed, the 2014 immunity to magic weapons attribute was usually a ribbon rather than a meaningful weakness. At least AD&D recognized the reality of the situation by adding gradients to the immunity.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 - Do magic weapons bypass resistance now?

Magic items, especially weapons, were mostly given out like candy in AD&D (check any official published adventure from that time). Sounds like you had an awesome experience, but lack of access to a magical weapon would not have been a plot point in most campaigns, and there is nothing stopping a...

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

I love it but can agree it’s overrated. I do think it’s the greatest RPG of all time for cultural impact alone. Obviously that’s as subjective as “greatest movie” or whatever, though D&D is unusual in having no real rivals in its genre.
