FWIW, there are wolves in the Starter Set monsters section (they are 1/4 CR), so I can definitely see more animals in the MM. Not a lot, perhaps, but a few dangerous ones.

As a big fan of Planescape, I'm actually ok with this. It's clear enough people liked the 4e Tieflings and Dragonborn for them to make an appearance in the PHB, but I'd wager we'll be getting the PS tieflings and planetouched races either in the DMG or in a planes-related sourcebook. Dare I...

IIRC, in the playtest document 2e's Tieflings were renamed as "Planetouched" and are a blanket category for "humans with extraplanar blood". The Tieflings in the PHB will be probably 4e ones.

IIRC, Elves are getting the Drow subrace in the PHB, so they get an additional one.

Is there an insult to call someone a 4e fan? What's so terrible about it? :confused: I know several people who define themselves as such, who incidentally swear 5e is a return to the "fantasy vietnam" playstyle in which GMs kill PCs for the lulz because it enforces "rulings, not rules". Didn't...

My understanding is that many 4e fans consider "guidelines" to mean "GM can do whatever they want", so encounter-building rules are inherently better to them than encounter-building guidelines. It's mostly a semantics thing.

I'm tempted to houserule crits back to the latest playtest package version. First I'm going to give the current rules a chance in play, though.

Ditto. I can't see any similitude, really.

I think listed saves are for those that differ from the raw ability score modifier, so the Dragon would get Str and Int saves equal to the number listed under its ability scores.

It's worth noting that quality freelance translation services have become a lot cheaper on the last few years. Perhaps it's profitable for WotC to translate the books on their own after all.
