Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

Yes, based on the limited info at my disposal, I feel like that could be a relevant example of irony.

A "Why Oh Why" RPG Thread [+]

Context: My usual experience is with D&D 5E. Then during the OGL situation, I started reading up on Pathfinder APs to see if there is an alternative I might like. Personally-speaking, I found the PF AP Campaign Background section to be on the longer side, rather complicated and (at least for me)...

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

I mean, that's a great data point I didn't have before! It helps, at least for me, explain the intrinsic motivation for putting up with all the friction that you seem be encountering here.

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

Well sure I have, but within the confines of the system (in my case D&D), not to change or refine the system itself. Generally speaking, I don't have time for that, even if I wanted to or had the right expertise.

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

Does that end goal in bold apply largely to filmmakers and students rather than film consumers? I think you might see what I'm aiming at. If the true value of criticism is for industry professionals, then the primarily value of criticism is lost when transposed here, is it not?

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

I feel like I am testing Enworld. And it's going to fail. And that's OK too.

A "Why Oh Why" RPG Thread [+]

This is a + thread 🙏 This totally experimental thread is for asking questions about anything RPG-related out of a place of curiosity and/or answering questions respectfully in kind. The intent of this + thread is to have a psychologically-safe, efficient and effective option for Enworlders of...

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

I didn't check the calendar, but that sounds right. I am not into novelty socks. I've answered your questions respectfully. Will you please answer my previous question? To repeat: Fact-finding. You chose to write "It's ironic that the OP sought to have the 'debate' in an echo chamber by...

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

Fact-finding. You chose to write "It's ironic that the OP sought to have the 'debate' in an echo chamber by sleazing the way opening posts and the block feature interact." Now that you put that out into the universe, I am asking you because I want to understand better where you got this...

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

Oh good! So you assert that the OP advocates for a wide-open non-exclusive discussion? And this is contradicted by their use of the ignore option on Enworld? Therefore it is ironic?

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

How do you know it's ironic if you can't read what the OP is about specifically?

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

I like this point, so may I cherry-pick it out of context from the discussion with pemerton (which TBH I didn't understand well)? On this isolated point, this seems 100% to true to me in theory. In actual practice, how often do we think this forum is conducive to or facilitates the critic...

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

That's what worries me! I do enjoy this at several levels, but ultimately, as a results-oriented person, I wouldn't last very long in a venue that is prone to intractable arguments, and definitely not those that lasts for years.

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

I 100% agree with that and propose that: Majority of participants here know this is a tough venue to do successful* good criticism AND it is being done poorly anyway There does not seem to be a lack of awareness around the suboptimal outcomes here (as far as I can tell) The majority of the...

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

Start a thread, label it [+System] players only. Done. If you don't have that [+] then anyone is allowed to critique, regardless of how you judge their merit. Is that good?

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

Have you heard of the 5 to 1 ratio by any chance? For every negative interaction during conflict, a stable and happy marriage has five (or more) positive interactions. If that ratio was even just 1:1 on Enworld, then for every criticism made, one would show appreciate (say a like or love emoji)...

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

Oh for sure. Enworld is still the best D&D forum hands-down. I avoid participating in Reddit like the plague. So like? Discussion: I hear you playing OK Computer all day. Tell me more about that. Harsh criticism: Why won't you turn off the damn music? It's making my ears bleed Constructive...

D&D 5E (2014) Is it right for WoTC to moralize us in an adventure module?

I suspect this thread has run out of steam and this is coming too late, but... Now that I have some experience under my belt with the ways of Enworld, I would have in retrospect made a few key changes to the thread: Change the title to something more accurate like Discussing Changes to...

D&D 5E (2014) Which of these possible endings do you prefer to see in every published adventure *as written*?

I don't know for sure what is "normal" here across the 5E community, that's why I started the poll! The poll is not scientific, but hopefully directional
