LOL!
Actually, a level 30 trap:
It's a giant orrey (you know, the things showing motion of planets)
Except:
It's whirling at a frenzied speed.
It's a far realms widget, so the orbs don't move in ordinary, euclidian geometry, but rather through higher dimensional space.
The orbs are actually...
I suspect that a Dragon that is a suitable encounter for the party's level will not be able to do half your hit points in a single breath; therefore, even if it crits it still won't be an instant TPK.
It's worth noting that the example combat round against a dragon had 4 characters all still up...
It occurs to me that, if monsters/villains all have well-defined archetype roles it may be relatively easy to swap them around. Especially if MMI has a broad selection of Types x Roles. In which case, this may not be all that bad for modules.
I suspect PHB 2+ will require only PHBI to be...
Each of the first three stories imply that Death Knight #1 was of their race--and Orcus thinks Gnomes are too silly to make into Death Knights ;)
I'm digging this; it does seem to have absorbed some of the Skeletal Warrior, but that's fine (do we really need two kinds of undead warriors?) Death...
Actually, the second half of the tale (the chance to avert the cataclysm to the rise after burning to death in his own keep) is part of the original tale. However, the first part (the pseudo-child) is new (it still keeps the infidelity of Lord Soth as a major part of the story, though).
Back to...
I've had two encounters with the Deck, one in a really good campaign, and one that was monty haul.
The first:
We start a battle against a giant 2-headed dragon naked, and chained to a wall (This was our fault). 1 character bursts free, triggering a trap that liquifies another character (didn't...
Hmmm...but if Rak hit die are not Sorcerer levels, can you double-count them for Practiced Spell Caster? After all, a Ftr7/Src1 w/PSC has a Sorcerer Caster Level of 5. A Rak/Src1 has a Caster Level of 8--would PSC make that 12?
The *main* reason this should not happen: Endless Blunt Jokes.
Hell, I just made one--and I was trying to be serious! :(
Whether Drug or Sex references, they'd be a terrible nuisance!
Which is even consistent with how they're described in 3.5. (As Grays that for some reason turn into killing machines...)
For that matter, the current crop of Slaads are Red, Blue, Green, Grey, Death: Fire, Air, Water, Earth, Abyss? Works for me.
Interesting idea! Given that they seem to be saying that the Elemental Chaos/Tempest is a raw creative force, perhaps Slaad are the 'mixed breed' of elementals, that arise spontaneously from the soup? (whereas Elementals spontaneously arise from pure pockets of material?) And Demons are what...
You could also go for the lies-in-wait-as-a-fake-island style Dragon Turtle: it looks like an island, good for a stopping point on a long voyage. Then, Rarrr! (do turtles actually make any noise?) Chomp-chomp-chomp.
But on the whole, it's a creature of very limited utility (except for sea-going...
Very little of the info Eric posted was released in the first month! At this point in the 3e run-up we really didn't have much info, only speculations and tidbits.
I don't expect you'll get all of the hard data you want until 2008 at the earliest (with the preview releases in Dec/Jan)...
Actually, the giraffe would make a decent fantasy creature: just tart it up a bit (it already has reach, how about adding an acid tongue attack?)
It's not nearly as bozo as some of the existing monsters...
On the whole, I like the planar name scheme. Feywild is a kind of weak link, but I truly...
That is an incredibly cool idea! Likewise, since things in the Shadowfell are twisted as well, the ghosts won't necessarily align perfectly with the living world (going up a stair in Shadowfell may result in the ghost floating above the stairs in the living world, for instance).
And I'm liking...
