Unsatisfied with the D&D 5e skill system

I do need to determine them ahead of time. Or I would if I actually used degrees of success. I have found some my most unsatisfying DMing comes when I don't decide what a die roll means before it is rolled.

My illusions! They have been shattered! Or: That is actually exactly where coconut milk comes from in my megadungeon campaign.

D&D 5E (2014) The highest sustained DPR build I could make

The @ works fine even with spaces. Protip: With long names, or just to ensure you get the name right, right-click (or long-press) the username and se!ect "copy link text," then just paste the name perfectly into your post.

I draw the occasional D&D map

I really like how these give an interesting border, a clear boundary to the set of geomorphs so they don't just spread out endlessly.

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

What about a song about a grocery list?

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

You say Dictionary, but I think you mean Thesaurus.

What previous supplements would you like to see brought back for 5e?

Oh yeah. I've mentioned that in previous threads, too! My dream version of it would be a Monster Manual like product, where each entry was a dungeon room/area instead of a monster.

Does the world exist for the PCs?

I used to do that sort of thing in 3e. I don't anymore. I try to randomly generate everything . . . although the smart player could use divinations to help their cause. For example, if they pay a witch to tell them where a good battleaxe can be found, randomly generated weapons in that area will...

Removing Hit Points from the Game

That'd totally work for me. I actually was recently fiddling with a hack that would work much like that. A character would start with his Con score in hit points and then gain from 1 ( wizard) to 4 (barbarian) hit points for each Keven ( including the first). It improves a character's hit...

What previous supplements would you like to see brought back for 5e?

There's already a fan-made version of it, but I still want a new and expanded Maztica.

Does the world exist for the PCs?

I've been running a megadungeon, a nice tight sandbox that is totally designed as a simulation of a fantasy megadungeon, to be explored and conquered. I think that means the world exists for the players, not the PCs. It certainly doesn't exist for any specific PC since they die often enough I...

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

That sounds a lot like how players of old school poker (as seen on Star Trek: TNG) take turns being Dealer and inventing their own wacky rules for the hand.

Unsatisfied with the D&D 5e skill system

My DMing has just been slandered! I happily set a DC the character can't fail, and it works quite well for us.

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

Oh, there's my problem, why I'm so weak. I don't like Pringles. Doritos bags just don't cut it, I guess.

I lift potato chips to my mouth. Does that count?

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

Oh hey! It's me from two weeks ago! I don't know if anybody noticed, but I've been away for nearly a fortnight. Recovering from injuries sustained.

D&D 5E (2014) What proportion of the population are adventurers?

In my current game, The proportion of adventurers would be about equal to the number of prospectors in the Klondike at the height of the Yukon Gold Rush. Although that's the population of the city district with the main entrance to the megadungeon ( kinda like Delver's Square in Ptolus, but...

D&D 5E (2014) The Final Announcement from The Descent Live Stream: Eberron Hardcover

Ikj and Parmandur managed the incredibly difficult feat of a two-poster double-post. You get a cookie! And you get a cookie! (And no one else gets a cookie! I ain't Oprah.)

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

Oh yeah. I should add that, despite completely disagreeing with you about what a paragraph is our isn't, you're right that the actual content ain't a lot of description. And on top of that, It's still more decscription than some of great novelists ever employ.

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

3-8 still puts Christie's lifetime paragraph count around 0. And that 3-paragraph-long sentence I mentioned comes from Salman Rushdie, a still-living writer. I don't think that fits with your idea of waaaaay back in the day.
