    Large size characters

That justification sounds good enough to me.

    Firearms

When I converted the Borderlands video game guns into D&D, I wound up refluffling the manufacturers into legendary dwarven smiths. Doing that, and wanting to keep gunpowder out of the setting for reasons similar to what @Cap'n Kobold mentioned, made me rework how the guns actually fuction so...

D&D 5E (2014) [Houserule] An Alternative Bless and Guidance

The bonus is definitely too small, yeah. As a player, I'd just be feeling that the spell's gonna have a real effect on only 1 out of every 20 rolls - because the only time +1 matters is when the DC is missed by 1. Like, the whole party's gonna have to make dozens of checks before I'd get the...

D&D 5E (2014) [Houserule] An Alternative Bless and Guidance

Guidance seems quite unappealing as a 1st level spell. The Bless is an interesting idea . . . What if you just have Guidance give that +3 proficiency bonus to skills.

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

Oh please. You've probably done it enough times, you could publish reliable survey results.

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

I don't like it. I'm rather proud of how high in the XP and Laughs Given rankings. But I'm a greedy horder, and I'd be at the bottom of the Treasure Points Given.

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

Yes. While all the monsters in the Cyber Sea are distracted, I will loot their oysters!

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

One of the guys at my table spends way too much game time trying to buy a nice sword. Meanwhile, I'd pay double, triple or even tenfold, the listed gold price to just buy the thing without playing out the shopping scene.

A GMing telling the players about the gameworld is not like real life

Now this is why I went to the tea room! I don't care if anyone from the Bone Breaking Sect is here. I'm ordering a #3.

If an NPC is telling the truth, what's the Insight DC to know they're telling the truth?

No, i don't really want another thread like that . . . unless there's a Realism subplot. Then I'm all in. I've got so many jokes on the topic, but Max and Lanefan were the only ones in that thread who were laughing along, I'm saving the jokes for a bigger audience.

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

If I read the instruction manuals, I would never have built up this collection of spare nuts and bolts. (And it's a good thing I have them because my Ikea shelving keeps falling apart)

If an NPC is telling the truth, what's the Insight DC to know they're telling the truth?

Please stop weaponizing humour! You'll just make Them ban it, and then I'll have nothing to contribute to this forum.

If an NPC is telling the truth, what's the Insight DC to know they're telling the truth?

Edit: sorry for the accidental quote alert, Oofta. Dang multiquote. "First, we kill all the lawyers paladins . . ."

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

On to more productive matters! Was this actually her intent, or is this explanation just a successful retcon? And do you think Alanis is a fan of Fuller House?
  15. Satyrn

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

One is jargon that surely has some specific meaning to you, the other is what I actually said. But, dang, this was a stupid shallow rabbit hole that leads nowhere I stepped into and really don't care about.

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

I never said RaW, just "what the book says." And here you are, again appealing to what the book says to justify summarily dismissing what the book says. I feel like I've just been handed a Cobra Assault Cannon. "I like it."

D&D 5E (2014) The Charismatic Fighting "Hero" - Which Core Class does it Best?

:hmm: Danggit. Man, your hate is on a hair trigger.
  18. Satyrn

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

I like that you started your post dismissing what the book says, then ended it by appealing to what the book says. Is that chutzpah? Or is it ironic? Should I ask Alanis?

If an NPC is telling the truth, what's the Insight DC to know they're telling the truth?

Sure, Cool. I'd be fine with that, too. I don't think you understand just how has the DMing in my example was, though, so I'm baffled that you want to show ways you do the same thing. It's even more baffling that you're doing that while trying to distance yourself from the "other side' while...
