    In Defense of Milestone Leveling

I want to add to this. Although I actually found this less-satisfying than gaining XP during our last session, my last session of play was still immensely fun. Gaining XP and leveling is such a tiny part of what playing this game is about for me, which is why I said in my first post of this...

D&D 5E (2014) Clockwork Toy: how realistic is its sound?

Also, my tablet wants to write anything but duck. I almost seriously broke the forum's profanity prohibition several times in several different ways. :uhoh:

D&D 5E (2014) Clockwork Toy: how realistic is its sound?

I'd probably rule it akin to a duck whistle, the closest thing I can think of am item that makes animal sounds So, realistic enough. Or if I didn't want it to be as easy to fool someone, I'd rule it like a See and Say - it totally sounds like the animal, but it's also totally clear it's an...

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Can druids wear studded leather?

Yeah, exactly. Summoned by the same supernatural forces that were weighing down the druid. "You don't have to outrun the armored bears. You just have to outrun the heretic druid, and I've made sure you can" - Mother Nature

Would've been funnier if bears started attacking, too

Well, robus did say he found it unsatisfying. We've used it in the past, and I was fine with it, but then another DM went back to handing out XP, and I was fine with that, too. But now we're back to what looks like DM fiat, and I'm finding it unsatisfying this time.

Time Limit as a Stress Inducer: Thoughts?

Count me in with the it depends on your players crowd. I don't think I'd enjoy the hard time limit you propose with the dropping arm example, but I'd be cool with you just politely encouraging me and the other players to decide in relatively short order . . . so long as you're also cool if I...

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Can druids wear studded leather?

Yeah no kidding. Even if we come to a consensus here in this thread (spoiler alert: we won't), there's simply no way to expect every DM he plays with will agree. The best answer in this case really is "there is no right answer, ask your DM." Although that said, my actual answer to the OP is...

[5E] Interrupting a Spellcaster via Ready Action

I don't get why the PC wizard is casting shield on his turn. But seriously. I'd rule that the fighter gets to interrupt, and if he hits, instead of dealing damage, I'd have the mind flayer roll a Constitution save with a DC equal to 8 + the fighter's Strength. Failure would result in losing...

I think @Saelorn was essentially just suggesting a way to explain how "XP for fighting" can be viewed to make it palatable if you think it works weird. He could probably just as readily offer a way to explain milestone XP if someone thought that was the system that worked weird. I have no...

Mixing Genres: Sci-Fi Campaign using 5E Rules

You're welcome. You should still check out the Dark Matter kickstarter, too. It actually uses the D&D classes, adding new subclasses to them. The preview shows off about 3 or 4 of them.

    Exploding Toads! Turtle Grenades!

Inspired by the Polymorph Is a Bad Debuff thread, I have created a new category of critters that might make Polymorph a more fun debuff. Torgue Beasts These underdark animals tend to be tiny, palm-of-the-hand sized animals, and they all share a distinctive light and dark checkerboard...

Oh. And Mage Hand Press is in the late stages of a Dark Matter kickstarter. They've done quite a bit of compelling 5e stuff. They're offering a 30 page preview at that link ( just scroll down a little)

Mixing Genres: Sci-Fi Campaign using 5E Rules

Esper Genesis is a 5e product. I used to play Dragonstar in 3e, which was D&D in spaaace, but I don't really have any advice. It was a long time ago in a city far far away. Edit: I ought to include a link to the free, basic rules of Esper Genesis
