Will D&D make strength matter again?

Please elaborate on too complex. All I did was give a weak sneak attack feature that you can get 1 extra die of damage per attack. So at 5th level you get an extra two dice to add to damage rolls per round. I could have simply made it an extra die of damage per attack but I wanted to give an...

Will D&D make strength matter again?

I find dexterity outshines strength dramatically when multiclass martial/rogue characters come into play. You can cherry pick rogue levels that really stack a ton of damage on to multiple attacks and you get a huge defensive buff by using the feat that allows you to add dex to AC as a reaction...

Will D&D make strength matter again?

It is simply because it effects too much of the game. Dex gives you AC & reflex saves, initiative, attack and damage bonus with both melee and ranged weapons not to mention a broad array of skills. No other stat has such a broad effect over both combat and non-combat as Dex does. Its too good

Will D&D make strength matter again?

Are you tired of Dexterity being the 'God' stat of D&D? DO you pine for the 3E and older versions were high strength was essential to melee combat success? Are you tired of the rapier replacing the longsword and battle axe as the go to weapon for most adventurers? I am and I am looking for...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

1)Yes, every dex primary character is probably better than 90% of Mongols alive unless you are stating that every real life Mongol has a 16+ dexterity. I don't know about you but most Mongols I have seen tend to represent stereotypical strength over dex if attributed to a D&D character. Most...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

The Mongols would disagree with you that its hard to shoot a moving target with pre-gunpowder weapons. Crossbows are ridiculously easy to fire at moving targets. You can definitely swing more times with a melee weapon. It can also be dodge, parried, blocked or absorbed much easier than a ranged...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

It is unrealistic because you are not factoring in fatigue. If you included the exhaustion mechanic with rules for one level of exhaustion for the run in light or medium armor and 2 for heavy armor then I would be fine with the run option.

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Just have the monsters take dodge actions as they run up if they do not have ranged offensive capabilities. Disadvantage on attack rolls will even up odds against PC's even if it takes a monster 5 rounds to make it through a kill zone

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

    1. I could kind of get behind that 2. No, let people live out their Legolas or Hank the Ranger fantasies 3. agreed, let all combatants get unlimited attacks of opportunity as long as the condition presents itself for one, only exception may be polearm master as that could need some tweaking 4...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Melee oriented characters taking more damage than ranged characters is a feature and not a bug of the game. Its the reason that in the 20th century no one gets into hand to hand combat unless they CANNOT avoid it by any means. Ranged weapons should in fact do MORE damage than they currently do...

D&D 5E (2014) My Players defeated Strahd in one round and it was glorious! (CoS Spoilers inside)

Glad you and your players enjoyed it. My group personally would have complained that the fight was too easy and not worth the campaign time invested in it. (These same players complained that Balors in 4E didn't hit hard enough and demanded that I increase the monster's damage so they could...

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin: Why Are They Often Considered Highly Powerful?

Some nice points there Mistwell but I disagree with your premise in a number of ways. 1) Armor & weapons do matter. Paladin could have an AC of 20 or better. Rogues have an AC on average of 15 - 17. If a paladin smites Strahd Von Zarovich, Strahd might miss the paladin on a counter attack...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rethinking immunities & resistance

Not really. I have seen YouTube posts where people in plate armor do acrobatic jumps and other maneuvers in plate armor. I think the main reason you don't get dex modifiers is that the armor is too heavy and would quickly tire you out if you tried to nimbly dodge each blow. 5E tries to simulate...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

The 5E Disintegrate is infinitely weaker than the 1E version. Your 5E 13th level fighter will have on average 109 hit points (based on average of taking 6 hit points per level with a 16 con). The disintegrate spell won't even work if he fails his save AND I roll max damage. On top of it I only...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

AT will magic is the same as using a crossbow. Its pathetic. Only difference is that I get more dice that I cannot add my stat to damage with. I don't care where my fireball starts I care where it ends and it ends badly in 5E. The damage is sub par. Spell memorization does come up because you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Really? How come everyone gets to roll that issue at ad nausea when they complain about martial imbalance? Ever single edition of D&D is brought into account. If I am to complain about caster weakness I have to have a correlation to compare it to. The comparison is prior editions. You can see...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Wow Mistwell. You just don't get it. You trolled me and you get defensive now? Ok. Spells know specifically refers to classes that have a limited number of spells known. Clerics and druids do not fit into this mix. Only the Charisma classes do. The people who were arguing against me...

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin: Why Are They Often Considered Highly Powerful?

Paladins are completely OP in almost every way imaginable. Best armor & weapons, auras that grant Charisma bonus of up to +5 on all saves. Other major aura bonuses such as 1/2 damage on spells. Smites that go off twice per round for mega damage that far exceeds what spells of appropriate level...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

IMHO, completely untrue. 5E is the worst edition for casters because they have to give you scaling damage cantrips to constantly make up for nerfed spells. You have to waste a 5th level slot to make up for what fireball can do in 2nd & 3rd edition. It won't ever reach the potential it had in...
