D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

Wow, resorting to personal eh Lord? Are you the actual writer for the module? Talk about no class. Your responses really fall into that line. Any writer can be brought to task for using worn out tropes and weak writing to fill pages in a module. Here are other examples of worn out tropes that I...

D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

So what your saying is that if I get George R.R. Martin or another well known writer or game designer to poke holes in this module by calling out the obvious plot holes and inconsistencies then you will reverse your opinion? Funny how you would raise their name when they have nothing to do with...

D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

What are you talking about? In Game of Thrones skull duggery plus bribery gets you into the palace guards. The greens who start as the knights watch would not make it into the royal house guards. Your saying that Samwell Tarley would be in the King's guard? No way..no how. Inept guards are not...

D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

No, its not lacking class to call someone out for making the same strawman argument trying to justify putting dunces as guards to a high level VIP. If the President of a country was incapacitated, the other people in line of succession would be protected by the very best that country has to...

D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

Yep, but for some reason we gotta put the Keystone Cops in charge so the PC's can bluff them very easily without much effort. *sigh*

D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

Wow, so many people defending usage of inept guards for VIP in a D&D game but would be hard pressed to find parallel examples in real life. It makes me wonder if many of SKT's defenders are the writers or their family members LOL!:heh:

    D&D 5E (2014) A New Culture?

I disagree with your assessment. I play with two very different groups. One is totally focused on combat survivability and role-playing is an afterthought. The second group is seriously focused on role-playing and will make decisions based upon their characters, combat efficiency is an...

    D&D 5E (2014) A New Culture?

I heartily disagree with you on a few points Tony. 4E is feat tax and if you did not take correct feats (weapon focus, defense feats) you were indeed suboptimal which is the complaint against this thread. Your second point of orc with a certain wizard build is also weak because orcs don't have...

    D&D 5E (2014) A New Culture?

I think this attitude really peaked in 4E and that is when the backlash started. "Feat taxes" were a 4E concept. Yes, 3e had feat chains required for getting seemingly superior feats like whirlwind attack (really not that great of a feat) but 4E baked in the math assuming you took focus plus...

Sage Advice 3/21/16 Exploding druids and antimagic field vs zombies and cure wounds

Your reply makes no sense. In both situations there is no justification for the item usage penalty, just a default "They won't use it because it doesn't work."

Sage Advice 3/21/16 Exploding druids and antimagic field vs zombies and cure wounds

Player agency is NOT ALWAYS PARAMOUT. When you join a club, fraternity, religion, organization, etc. You agree to be bound to those rules. In the case of divine casters its even more harsh because you are being granted power. It is not inherent to you nor is it a function of training. Even if...

    D&D 5E (2014) Bastard Sword Idea

I actually like this idea as it gives sword & board plus two weapon characters a reason to invest in strength instead of dex. So tired of dex & wisdom being the God stats of D&D. Strength needs to reclaim its rightful place as the go to stat for heavy hitting martial characters!:)

Sage Advice 3/21/16 Exploding druids and antimagic field vs zombies and cure wounds

Get lost Vecna you are only a God in the Ravenloft demiplane. This is 5E and we all know Forgotten Realms is the default setting. You have no power here

Sage Advice 3/21/16 Exploding druids and antimagic field vs zombies and cure wounds

I disagree. Scimitars were not considered finesse weapons in 3E where the concept was born. They were rolled into finesse weapons in 5E simply to accommodate a very popular dark elf fighter/ranger. Ergo, it makes complete sense that one handed weapons such as longswords and clubs which have...

D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

Yep, I am sure you would hire Laurel & Hardy for your guards too. Hill Giants wouldn't be allowed to be guards for VIP. Just like how you don't post raw recruits as right outside the ambassador's door. They may not be Navy Seals but they are Marines which are a paygrade above Army privates. Not...

Mad idea: taking a level of exhaustion to regain a once-per-long-rest ability?

I like this idea. It would allow exhaustion to be more of a factor in the game.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bastard Sword Idea

I think the damage vs larger creatures was a balance issue to keep fighters on par with wizards and give them a bit more "oomph" than clerics. I reason this because I have been replaying the old gold box games since GOG has updated them to work with new PC's. I found that giving longswords 1D12...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better Rogue

Only change I have house ruled for rogues is allowing them to sneak attack with any weapon listed as an initial proficiency for them in addition to ranged weapons. Rogues using longsword is iconic and needs to be kept. Longswords were the "special" weapons of D&D and had a chance to be...

D&D 5E (2014) Why does WotC put obviously bad or illogical elements in their adventures?

I agree with the OP. WOTC having dumb hill giants guard a VIP would be like have Barney Fife guard the President. Its a bad idea that while may be good for a few laughs just wrecks immersion unless you are playing a slapstick kind of game.

The Goddess Within: Playing Nymphs [5E]

Disappointed with stat choices and racial abilities seem subpar compared to standard core PHB races. They make very niche divine characters as written.
