    Arrive AT or Arrive TO?

This might me one of the few threads where we’ve all arrived to the same conclusion. Its so beautiful I’m crying tears of joy.

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

We've got the benefit of hindsight, but we've heard people who lived through it talk about how it made playing games difficult for them. And when your company is the one being sued for wrongful death you never know how much damage that might actually do. Juries aren't always entirely...

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

Yes, it is very different. However, in this particular case, I was referring to Gygax's and even the Blume's practice of hiring friends and family who essentially had no real function at TSR and were quite a drain on resources. Distributing such largesse to friends and family to the point of...

What if you used a flamethrower as a snowblower?

Flamethrowers were used to clear some of the 8 inches of snow that fell on Washington D.C. on the eve of Kennedy's inauguration courtesy of the US Army Corps of Engineers.

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

Gary dropped out of high school his junior year and while he took a few college courses never got his degree. Gygax was an intelligent, well read individual, but he did not have much in the way of a formal education nor did he have any experience running a business generating millions in...

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

It was pointed out that unlike Gygax those other businesses didn't fail. Some of them either did fail or were on the verge of failure. While I recognize Gygax wasn't the best businessman in the world, for a dude who didn't have much of a formal education, he did fairly well. I doubt I would...

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

Apple came pretty close to going under until Bill Gates saved it from bankruptcy back in 1997.

D&D General The First Demise of TSR: Gygax's Folly

Gygax very much caught lightning in a bottle. Quite frankly, we were also lucky to have someone like Gary Gygax during the Satanic Panic when D&D, and all role playing games, were under attack. He did a great job explaining what D&D was to the masses and defending the game from unfair criticism.

    WoD renaming, White Wolf returns

I don't know which copyright laws in particular you're referring to as fascist. While we might quibble over a few things, how long copyright should last for example, I think most of us are pretty comfortable with the idea that people should be able to profit and have some control over their IP...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Instead of Dirty Down I used some AK Interactive rust streak which is an enamel based product. Rush color streaking stuff doesn’t stand out too much on red. I used Vallejo rust wash on the arms and legs. I’m going to go ahead and call this one done. M

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

I forgot that I’d need to add details before I start weathering. Other than the base, you could call this done but I’d like to weather it a bit more. This is the point of the project I’m afraid of ruining by doing more. i.e. Should I quit while I’m ahead?

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

The salt has dried and this is what you end up with. I should have said I painted the red layer using my airbrush. You might be able to use a regular brush if you’re careful though. One thoroughly dry, I waited an hour, I took an old brush and started knocking off the salt. Had I thought...
