    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

I suspect the bulk of those who play D&D do so for a few years and eventually age out. I don't have any problem with WotC aiming their marketing decisions towards a younger age bracket than mine. It just makes sense to me.

WizKids to Release Adult Blue Dragon Figure Based on Dragon Delves

I'll probably wait until it sits on the shelf of my local game store for a while and they put it on sale.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

I think that's basically it. Probably the best argument I've heard against the problematic elements of Dark Sun is that children play D&D. I just don't think there's anything in Dark Sun that's particular harmful to children.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

It still leads itself to a lot of subjectivity. Even if we all agree on what's problematic there's no objective way to decide how to handle it.

Who are these experts with the ability to tell us what is and isn't problematic?

What makes a successful horror game?

Really? We're talking about creatures that penetrate their victims, exchanging bodily fluids. How anyone can connect that to sex is unfathomable. 👀 Interestingly enough, on the Reddit forums within the last few days I've seen a few threads about how uncomfortable the metaphor of sex and...

What makes a successful horror game?

Oh, yeah. If you're just going to die or fail there's no tension and most horror scenarios are designed so your characters have a chance of success. I was going to mention something about being in the right mindset. How many of us played Vampire in the 90s as a bunch of angsty teenagers...

WizKids to Release Adult Blue Dragon Figure Based on Dragon Delves

I'm not a fan of WizKids' miniatures in general, but I've liked a lot of their larger creatures and this blue dragon looks pretty sweet. I still haven't painted my gargantuan red dragon though. I might actually buy this blue dragon.

What makes a successful horror game?

This is a really big question because there are so many different types of horror stories. Let's start with actually trying to define horror as a genre. A horror story seeks to induce fear, dread, or even disgust in its audience by tapping into their anxieties. When it comes to genre, whether...

    Optimization and optimizers...

No doubt an RCC inspired by some poor guy whose girlfriend asked him, "Would you still love me if I was a worm?"

    Optimization and optimizers...

Is this discussion about optimization and optimizers or did the board's focus change to etymology? I'm down either way. I'm sure the one thing that has been on all your minds is, "What does mgibster think of optimizers and optimization?" Well have no fear, my friends, because I'm here to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

They added all sorts of stuff to Curse of Strahd that wasn't in the original. Do they still print CoS? If so, are they putting a disclaimer on it these days?

Which is odd given just how many problematic elements are in Curse of Strahd from domestic abuse to trafficking children to support drug habits.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

I don't think anyone overlooked this. I haven't read through this thread in a while, since 2023, but some people, either in this thread or others on the subject, have argued against republishing Dark Sun because it might allow some tables to play it the wrong way. i.e. Maybe in someone's game...

Origins Game Fair Confirms 19K Attendees in 2025

I thought we were past this as a people! Darn it, folks. If you can afford to go to Origins you can afford clean clothes and bathing facilities. There's just not many excuses not to smell like a bouquet of flowers. The biggest convention I ever went to was a trade convention, Workday...

RPG Evolution: Problems with the Staff

"Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians." -- Eleanor of Aquitaine The Lion in Winter. I suppose this hits onto some worldbuilding. What's a weapon? It's very often defined by culture. When I go hiking, I often carry a folding...

D&D General Best D&D product of any edition (non-core book)

Asking me to name my favorite D&D product is like asking me to single out my favorite Snarf post. No mortal has had time to read all of them! The Random Harlot Table should make AD&D 1st edition DMG the clear winner, but it's a core rulebook and is therefore disqualified. While there were a...
