D&D 5E (2014) Resting in a mega-dungeon?

It's in Waterdeep and easily accessible to other adventurers. If it starts becoming a problem of resting after every encounter, start having rooms and treasure cleared out by other groups of adventurers. And remember that characters can only benefit from a long rest once every day. If they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hex Shenanigans

Why carry around a chicken? Just move it to one of your friends. Then when the next fight starts, move it to the new target.

D&D 5E (2014) Want a better Rogue? Build a Wizard. Or why play a Rogue?

And remember that for this conversation, any spells used to make a wizard more survivable directly affect their use as a rogue-replacement. Any spell slot used in combat directly limits their ability to solve the problems that rogues can solve without resources. I think that a wizard could...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragon's breath weapon vs wall

I would say that is way too high. People surviving getting hit by lightning is a pretty common occurrence. About 90% of people struck by lighting survive it. Granted, it can still mess you up in other ways, but it's rare for it to actually kill you. I think 2d10 is pretty accurate.

    D&D 5E (2014) Next session a character might die. Am I being a jerk?

Ah yes. But no one has said those things in this thread. That is an argument that you made up to tell everyone that they're playing their good characters wrong.

    D&D 5E (2014) Next session a character might die. Am I being a jerk?

The thing about celestials becoming evil and devils becoming good isn't the same. Yes, Celestials are intrinsically Good and literally made of Good. They can change their alignment and become evil. But that literally changes what they are. (And I am using literally correctly, not in the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Detecting concentration?

I would lean towards no, you cannot detect if someone is concentrating on something. In my opinion, it is far to close to Detect Magic. A skill check shouldn't be able to replicate a spell. Even if it is a weaker version of it, being able to detect concentration would be a massively huge boost...

    D&D 5E (2014) GM Adjudicating assistance please

For the harpoons, I'd just make it so that on a hit, the character must make a Strength Saving Throw or be pulled closer.

    D&D 5E (2014) Darkness and Disengage

I see OAs and disengage less as the the defender guarding against threats and more as the attacker taking advantage of an opening made possible by the defender dropping their guard to move. Disengage is just using your action to move cautiously and keep your guard up, thus preventing an opening...

    D&D 5E (2014) Darkness and Disengage

That is correct. I wasn't using disadvantage in terms of mechanics. I should have said, they are fighting at a detriment, while the warlock is fighting with a benefit.

    D&D 5E (2014) Darkness and Disengage

If you can't see, you cannot make an opportunity attack. You can only take an opportunity attack when you can see someone move out of your reach. To Esker, the benefit to a Warlock using Darkness is the invocation the OP took that allows him to see in magical darkness. So everyone else in the...

D&D 5E (2014) How does animate objects work?

I don't think it's unreasonable for your free object interaction to be pulling out and opening a jar at the same time.

Is Forgotten Realms the Default Campaign Setting for 5e?

The rule system itself does not assume any default setting. But many of the published adventures (especially the early ones) are set in the FR as default.

    D&D 5E (2014) Concentration spells in 5e

Because he's not asking the rules about surprise. And it may not be RAW, but the way it was played is not a huge leap. It's reasonable for a DM to allow a spell to be cast outside of combat to start the combat. It's just like playing the first round of combat where the enemies are surprised and...

D&D 5E (2014) House rule impact: Replacing stat mod with proficiency bonus

It's interesting. It may or may not have the effect you are looking for, depending on your players. Some might see it as needing to maximize starting stats and then not putting any more effort into it. But you can also get to a +5 bonus quicker using ASIs than you can waiting for proficiency to...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts about the Protection Fighting Style

I like the concept you are shooting for, but I don't think it is quite there yet. The fighter is giving up all of his attacks per turn to possibly make one attack or take damage for an ally. Unless the ally is about to die, it doesn't seem like a fair trade in most cases.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you play D&D if you knew there would be no combat?

I would still be interested if it had a concept that I found intriguing and I knew that there would be no combat before character creation. Although I would still probably suggest that another system might better suit the game.

    D&D 5E (2014) messy's 5e newbie questions thread

Ah thank you for pointing that out. I should've looked up Cure Wounds before posting. So there are no general rules for healing undead/constructs, but the specific spells, items, etc. will indicate if they do not work on undead/constructs.

    D&D 5E (2014) messy's 5e newbie questions thread

There is nothing in the rules that prevents undead and constructs from being healed through normal methods. Cure Wounds would work on either. If a specific creature has something that would prevent it from being healed this way, that will be in it's stat block. There are no general rules for...

    D&D 5E (2014) OP Cantrip?

Compare it to True Strike. Also a cantrip, but uses an Action. Your next attack is at advantage. Only affects a single attack and just for you. This 3PP cantrip costs a bonus action and gives the target disadvantage on their attacks, gives you advantage on all your attacks, and gives your party...
