What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

This is a frankly a pretty cowardly and bad faith response to a thoughtful thread.

Ideas for options that use both Strength and Dexterity

I have been using a "simplified encumbrance" system for my new campaign and the players have actually quite liked it. It also makes Strength feel pretty important. It was hacked together by a user on these forums...

What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

In the indie-RPG world there is a pretty common thing where you put an "X" on an index card and put it in the middle of a table. As a rule, if someone touches the "X" everyone agrees to politely move the conversation on. So, if you are playing Apocalypse World and somehow end up describing...

    When Fantasy Meets Africa

Not necessarily a direct reply. Just a jumping off point. Africa is composed mostly of countries and borders decided by colonists with very little regard for the cultures and peoples who were already there. It would be nearly impossible for most African Americans to trace their lineage back to...

    When Fantasy Meets Africa

Hopefully in Muslim majority nations where it belongs? I doubt many of us have a vested interest in improving our children's lives by talking about that so why bother? Just to deflect with transparent whataboutisms? There is nothing punishing or racist about acknowledging why other people have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do you use/allow custom backgrounds?

I use a lot of custom backgrounds. In my current campaign players rolled on tables I created to seed the world with weird places/stories they had heard about. These things created the backgrounds for the world. You chose one that had "touched your life" in some way and that imparted skills...

D&D 5E (2014) Is there any 5e love for skill challenges??

I use a simple version for overland travel these days. I constantly tinker with it but the basic idea usually boils down to players taking turns at making checks coupled with collaborative storytelling. More failures means more random encounters. People like it. I also use them for running away.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you like a 5e video game akin to Neverwinter Nights & Neverwinter Nights 2?

That would be cool, but I probably wouldn't buy it. Now something between Pool of Radiance and X-Com? I would buy that twice.

[POLL] Which Xanathar's Guide Cover Do You Prefer?

I want to like the special edition more than I do.

North Texas RPG Convention Refuses To Listen To Harassment Concerns

I’m not sure why us discussing his response on a forum bothers some. We’re not sending him to prison. We’re talking about something crappy in our hobby and one example of a response. The idea that we should give equal weight to all opinions when it comes to topics like sexual harassment at cons...

North Texas RPG Convention Refuses To Listen To Harassment Concerns

It’s weird for a con organizer to blatantly lie in order to convince me that they are trash at what they do. Imagine if someone applied this dimwit’s logic to any other thing in life. ”I don’t care if he is in ISIS!” ”Yeah alright sit down” It’s crazy that people in this hobby could somehow...

    D&D 5E (2014) Way of Natural Purity

Yeah “Punish the Impure” was the one that struck me as messiest. I had a similar thought that it should just eat spell slots or uses. Maybe spellcasters make a save. If they succeed they lose one of their lowest remaining spell slots. If they fail they lose one of their highest remaining spell...

D&D 5E (2014) Does this riddle make sense?

This is a great change to the riddle IMO, and you could build up some lore around the characters of the forgetful angel and the devil who must lie. Maybe sprinkling stuff in earlier rooms. I also think a Devil works well in that situation. You just tie his lying to a vow or master plan or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should D&D go away from ASIs?

I likes ASIs because they tell a story.

D&D 5E (2014) Read-along, zero preparation adventures: do they exist?

From what I have seen, the formatting in Maze of the Blue Medusa would really cut down on prep, but the adventure itself is so big and edition neutral it would require some prep anyway. A smaller and more specific adventure using that formatting could be low/no prep.

D&D 5E (2014) Running Maze of the Blue Medusa for 5e

Thank you for this tremendously thoughtful response. Is there any small chance you might have a suggestions for similarly “pick up and play” adventures? I wanna run something different with a new and unreliable group, but I think my wife will kill me if I spend more time preparing anything each...

D&D 5E (2014) Forget about the treasure and pricing system of 5E!

This is not a perfect solution for everyone's game, but I am running a campaign where the players are enrolled in a school for heroes. There is almost no starting equipment and for each level they have to pay tuition to access the next round of classes to level up. Each assignment has a deadline...

D&D 5E (2014) Running Maze of the Blue Medusa for 5e

I've been looking to plug a mega dungeon into my play schedule. I've never done one and I think they sound appealing. My wants are: - The barest minimum of prep - Interesting roleplaying opportunities A few people have directed me to Maze of the Blue Medusa which seems to basically be what I...

D&D 5E (2014) What 5e rule/option/class/item etc. do you regret allowing into your game

My players suck, so nothing yet. Having two players with Lucky was annoying last time. I might make a houserule for this campaign that fears are exclusive to the first player to take them. I kiiiiinda wish we weren’t using feats at all, but I’m not sure enough about it to say “no feats” yet.
