Is WotC announcing a new setting at GenCon?

There is a lot (ALOT) of plane hopping built into the recent monster manual type books. Maybe that is building towards something. The Plane Above has an entire section about how to navigate the region between planes and the required vehicles. Some sort of Planescape/Spelljammer book might be...

    What, no Beholder Pack Pics?

We have Gen Con and there are no samples of the new miniatures being released this fall? sigh,...

    Fighter Slayer preview

Yes, the name of the class only applies to the metagame now. With so many builds, you can't just say that you are a "fighter" as per 1e. 4e seems to say, "Here are a plethora of base builds from which you can call yourself a fighter." It is very complex approach, but that complexity sits on...

    Fighter Slayer preview

Up to now, the Essentials classes seemed just as complex as the original 4e PHB. Slayer is very straightforward and seems very FUN.

Essentials - Will you be getting it?

I will thoroughly investigate Essentials with the anticipation that it'll just provide a new character build for several classes. I love splat books so bring it on.

    Saturday Morning Cartoon Campaign...

Blackstar is a good cartoon from that era as well. Much like Flash Gordon, it never reaches a conclusion. Consider the James Bond movies also for that type of feel. The old movies (Dr. No, for example) introduce bad guys and organizations that are great for D&D villains.

    Come and (Don't) Get It?

I agree with this statement and it doesn't bother me a bit. I like the fighter and the ability in question. All of the classes in 4e practice some form of "magic." This is built into the setting just as much as hit points, AC, etc.....

    I have Adventure Vault 2

Perhaps Oriental Adventures will make the run next year.

    Local Game Store Tour

Strangely, I don't like the gamestores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Waco has the Game Closet, which I do like. War Machine and Hordes are there in force. People have room to game in the store. It is not pretty store, but it has quality stuff. No comics though,.....

Masterwork from Adventurer's Vault: Help Me Grock It

If the fighter/paladin are supposed to jump into the melee and absorb attacks then either they need tons of HP or a higher armor class to limit the damage. The strikers (and lightly armored defenders) tend to have mobility on their side. As you note, the lightly armored AC is still quite...

Masterwork from Adventurer's Vault: Help Me Grock It

If you feel that heavy armor should consistently provide better AC than light armor, then you have to use the masterwork armor rules. If you don't use the Masterwork rules then you are weakening classes like Paladin and Fighter who depend on armor as a class feature. I think that the...

Granting a shift to a prone ally

I think that the prone player should just be allowed a shift if someone else grants him one. He couldn't shift on his own, but an ally could help him. I would not allow him to just stand up.

    So, about Expertise...

Dude, you've got almost 3,000 posts. You ain't gonna stop playing DnD. :D I just meant that it is super easy to ban one little feat rather than try and fit it into the system. It is even more work to fit the system to the feat.

    So, about Expertise...

It is easier to just disallow the feat and not worry about it.

    The Watchmen....unwatchable?

RottenTomatoes is a good site. You can gauge how well it fits your tastes and use the reviews accordingly. I miss Siskel and Ebert (in their various incarnations). When they reviewed a movie, I knew whether I wanted to go see it or not. They could relate value to genre, action sequences, sex...

    Sure Strike revisited

My main concern would be how to measure the value of a Mark. If you allow Sure Strike to mark a second adjacent creature on a hit, then how does it compare as an at will? It might be too much, because a fighter's Mark is potent.

    Battlestar Galactica #16: Deadlock/Season 4 Finale/2009

Bottom five episode. Only moments to glean from the dren: Starbuck is hearing the music. Adama has seen that all humans are cylons (I just know it deep in my tummy). That's what Adama referred to when drinking with Saul. Ellen just grates on my nerves.

    Sure Strike revisited

The name of the Power really isn't the issue. It could be called "Snowflake Rainbow Love Snuggle", just do something useful. Sure Strike and Careful Attack have been scrutinized since they came out. The Ranger at will "Careful Attack" is a poor choice for any build. Twin Strike far outclasses...

    Sure Strike revisited

How about: Marking Strike At-Will ♦ Martial, Weapon Standard Action Melee Weapon Target: One creature Attack: Strength +2 vs AC Hit: 1[W] damage and you mark an additional adjacent enemy until the end of your next turn. ____Weapon: If you are using a flail, spear or a pick you mark an...

I just like the weapon focussed powers. Axes and Hammers get too much love.
