Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords: Proto-Review

Nice review. I glanced over the book in the store. This book presents a very complex system of abilities relative to the core design. It is much more than I would want to DM, as far as keeping up with the maneuvers and when they can replenish, etc.... John

The Iconics are out in force

Where oh where? I cannot find "Heroes at Rest" or "Troll Attack" in my PHBII, did I get a bad copy?

    Feat Problems With PHB II

agreeing with Caliban Weapon Mastery should just grant an additional +1 to hit and grant the net +2/+2 to all weapons of the subtype. Very nice. John

    Rhino Death from Above Attack

Form of .........a pail of water While it is not "rules" intensive, I consider the modus operandi of an attack form. The rhino is not built to be dropped from a height. So, I'd let the druid take quite a bit of damage when doing a rhino belly flop. Then the druid is using up some healing...

    Awaiting with Excitment for...?

Stuff that's coming up: Forgotten Realms: Ancient Empires (unless the drow are a major player) Arcana Evolved (as long as there is enough new stuff) Complete Arcane (unless page xx is referenced) Iron Kingdoms Campaign guide (or whatever its called) What ought to be made: Airships II, more...

white wolfs new Vampire: The Requiem

I see no reason why D20 couldn't handle WoD. Storyteller influenced my style, but the dice pools just beat me down. For me, d20 gets to the point. I use Vampire as a guideline for following an ethos (for a paladin or cleric). The werewolf game really helped to work out alignment issues for...

The ELH is a great book (if you know how to use it)!

This is exactly why Andy Griffith had to stay in Mayberry. Luckily, Otis was only a 3rd level drunk.

What does the new World of Darkness do best?

Loved werewolf Werewolf the Apocalypse rocked my world, but then I slipped into my dice pool and nearly suffocated.

[Rant]Anyone else annoyed to hell with Wizards "no novel discussion in our boards"

" Why not let the novels be discussed at other websites and leave it at that? As I recall, the WotC boards were dominated by "these writers suck...". If I were WotC, I'd never had opened such a board because of the nature of the internet. It depresses the work atmosphere and would pressure...

Who is the coolest game designer?

Ed Stark I interpreted this as "who puts out game supplements that I like", which left me with James Wyatt, Ed Stark and Andy Collins. If "cool" = James Dean, then I'd have to say Monte Cook. He went maverick and has been successful at it. Arcana Unearthed has a lot of good ideas, but as a...

Miniatures Handbook: Feats, Spells & Monsters

The Mini's book is one of my favorites except too much of it is showing up in other 3.5 books. Repeating Favored Soul in Complete Divine just irritates me. Feats like Mage Slayer are just the kind of feat that I like. Cuts down on dice rolls and makes a significant impact on strategy. The...

    Skill increasing feats worth it?

You give up a lot of options when you select a skill increasing feat. For classes without bonus feats, you deny yourself access to really good stuff like Spring Attack or Improved Two Weapon Fighting. If you are going to be good at a skill, then eventually your skill ranks will make the...

    Revision Spotlight (6/17)

Legolas had archery as one of his many talents. If he jumped genre, over into Wuxia, he'd probably switch to his way-cool-elf-knife style. Robin Hood, I don't like him. But he was also a great swordsman as well as an archer. Good at everything as I recall. Except acting, but hey, what can a...

    Revision Spotlight (6/17)

Maybe it should have a Reflex save prerequisite or a higher Dex requirement, but I prefer the automatic success. Saves time and gives the character a cool ability. I prefer for archery to be a tool that my players can use, while melee is the meat and potatoes of DnD for my group.

New Revision Spotlight - Deflect and Snatch Arrows

house rule? Deflect Arrows Prerequisites: Dexterity 15+, Spot [6] Benefit: Automatically deflect one missile weapon per round as long as you are aware of the attack and you have your dexterity bonus vs. the attacker.

Which fighting style does your fighter use?

I do think that the shield style needs some oomph, but should not require a lot of feats.

    Ghostwalk reviews?

It seems like a great concept, but does the book deliver? I've read that it doesn't have the necessary maps, but WotC intends to post those as a web enhancement. Other than that, I've not read any commentary about it. Anybody have an opinion on it?

Power attack bonus x2 for 2 hand weps

I certainly don't think that 2WF is hosed. Especially since you don't have to spend alot of feats to get this improved version of Power Attack. You can always switch between the two styles. With the 2WF style, you spread out your damage potential. You are more likely to get a hit each round...

Rapid Shot analysis by Sean Reynolds

First of all, a melee fighter should be able to do more damage in a single hit compared to an archer. That is the point of 'Power Attack'. I did not realize that magical bonuses for arrows and bows stacked. That's double your money for damage on one attack. That is a serious advantage. Other...
