I wonder if we look back at previous charity drives, whether the same posters now suggesting we have to look very closely at charitable status were equally vocal then about doing so. And if not, I wonder what possible reasons there are for doing so with this particular charity now all of a sudden.

I disagree that 5e is sraving for new mchanics. It's just not succumbing to bloat like previous editions. That's a good thing.

I'm guessing it's in relation tot he OP, which talks about a cutlass in one hand and a pistol in the other, and the relevance of the crossbow expert feat - if he has a cutlass in the other hand, he wouldn't be able to use crossbow expert to keep firing the pistol because he'd need a free hand to...

I think that rather than a huge bunch of psionic subclasses for every class out there (because if you have a psionic thief, a psionic ranger, a psionic mage, then you'll have people complaining there's no psionic cleric, etc), it would be better to have a psionic class with just a few subclasses...

You could also argue that a bold innovation would be to have 5e be the first edition that never has a psionics option at all.

I'd take the opposite tack - what would poison the game is bloat. KISS is a much better way of dealing with the mechanics, the fewer new systems and subsystems the better.

It's equivalent to the guy with his throat stamped on saying "I can't breathe" and the cop with his boot on that throat saying "but what about my corns?"

I've found that even terrible scenario pdfs can be useful in giving you an idea to run with. I'd recommend having a look through the various scenarios you do like, noting the publisher and author, and seeing if they have done any other work.
