D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

@Helldritch Would you mind giving me the name of the historian who suggests it wasn't a myth? I wouldn't mind chatting to them to see why they think so, since they're very much an outlier. You can PM me if you'd prefer.

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

There was a lot of difference within each country. Canon law sat alongside Roman law (in some countries), or alongside English Common Law (in England). Quite a few countries had both Roman Law and Germanic Vendetta Law in operation depending on who was trying you, in addition to canon law...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

No, droit de seigneur was a myth. Do a basic google search, and you'll find that just about all medieval historians agree that it's a myth. Search for any primary sources that mention it. It's a myth. (I also teach medieval history at university. If you've found a historian who does think it...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

It was more a comment from the person I was posting, that they must be correct because their wife had a diploma in medieval studies. I can dig out references for the stuff I was posting if anyone's interested though or wants to know mroe (medieval crime can be a fascinating area of study, though...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

Droit de seigneur / cuissage / ius primae noctis (and several other forms), is a myth. I'm assuming that the reference to 10 innocents is a reference to a tithing; if that's the case, then death was never the penalty for the other members of a tithing. It was simply a measure to attempt to use...

D&D 5E (2014) What official 5E content do you want to see more of?

That's my preference too. You can still have big plots, lots of factions (and their aims and ambitions) in a sourcebook, but you don;t need to keep making huge changes to settings just for the sake of having a metaplot. Let the players and GMs do that at their own tables.

D&D 5E (2014) Temple of Elemental Evil is the next Original Adventures Reincarnated

I'm not sure I'd agree. Tomb was a mix of Chult and the old Tomb, Waterdeep was heavily influences by the old undermountain stuff. Haven't really looked closely at Avernus to say if that was based on older stuff or not, but I'd say it was more a case of it being a while since they have come up...

D&D 5E (2014) Temple of Elemental Evil is the next Original Adventures Reincarnated

Yeah, my post was a bit of a threadcrap, I'll admit. I had this thread and the one talking about deserts of desolation as possible new AP open at the same time. I'd still prefer to see Goodman also do some new stuff rather than old stuff rehashed, if that makes any difference?

D&D General Worlds of Design: Is Fighting Evil Passé?

I've found that it's the characters that are evil that are getting more and more passe by the day. Bonus points for tedium if they're tiefling warlocks too.

D&D 5E (2014) Temple of Elemental Evil is the next Original Adventures Reincarnated

I'd much rather see new adventure paths that aren't just rehashes of old stuff. Even updated a little (like Princes from Elemental Evil), they're still showing their age a little. The Pathfinder APs tend to be better in that regard at least.

D&D 5E (2014) What official 5E content do you want to see more of?

More subclasses and backgrounds, some new adventure paths, and setting books. They can all be combined into one book too.

    WotC "D&D's Best Year Yet"

I'm definitely a grognard (historical wargames only), been gaming since the early 80s. :)

WotC 5E 2020 Book Clue - I need your help!

I'd say more than a bit uneven, it really varied in quality from pretty decent to absolutely terrible.

WotC 5E 2020 Book Clue - I need your help!

The In Search of series was very hit and miss, desert of desolation series were ok (and different to what else was available), but the dragonlance ones were terrible (here's the campaign, now, you have to do these exact things that match up to the plot of the books in their entirety, no trying...

I wonder if it will be something similar in that it's another pocket plane like Barovia, perhaps Feywild or similar.

    D&D 4E Edition Experience - Did/Do You Play 4th Edition D&D? How Was/Is it?

Ah, not from any of my groups then. Only visited Illinois once, and only for a few days. Good to see it wasn't just us though with those games.

    D&D 4E Edition Experience - Did/Do You Play 4th Edition D&D? How Was/Is it?

That's pretty much the same for us too, and we've played a lot of games over the last (almost) 4 decades. Oh, and Fate. There were a couple of people that thought it was ok-ish, no-one loved it, several of us hated it.

    D&D and the rising pandemic

If it were only Bill Gates saying something, then that would be one thing. With all the world's authorities agreed on the danger of this virus, though, your point is compelte crap, just like the dangerous nonsense you've been peddling here. Some people on this forum have been grappling with...
