Still, I think a 'lone defender' problem can be remedied by a DM who is willing to contrive smaller encounter areas to accomodate for the fact that encounter scale WILL be smaller (not just because of fewer players but fewer monsters). (somewhat OT, I know)

I concur with this. I get so annoyed looking at the Character Builder and seeing that the Warforged, the Goliath and the Minotaur. And it's not like these races have received the kind of broad feat support that other races have gotten that would give them broadly distinct build possibilities...

I have a hunch that Greg K's interest in retraining Resurrection is less about an interest in shoe-horning some changes into the Warpriest and more about trying to find ways to replace it with something more fitting with his campaign. His 'disappointment' with its inclusion in my estimation...

Essentialized is the "Ultimatizing" of D&D. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

CON would make sense as it reflects well on the flavor of having more potent surges than other races, but I also think INT would be interesting since the fluff portrays the race as being nostalgic and full of a sense of history.
