Are there beholders in Dark Sun?

Hm, the tone I seem to be getting from 4e DS is a little bit of a more restrictive version of that. It's like "if you want it in there, it's in there," holds but "only if it makes really good sense to do so and you have a way of twisting it." If anything, the Dark Sun Campaign Setting is less...

    [Gamma World] Homebrewed Origins

These are great origins! I love how your flavor text really matches the tone of the original product, and I totally approve of the Lincolnoid and its leader-like disposition.

So, how many are avoiding Essentials?

Yeah people seem to generalize that there's no 'choice' in Essentials, when it's plain to see that the idea was never about removing the choice. Instead it's about making the choices available have easily comprehensible differences based on the contexts that a player might have experienced from...

Any good Gamma World one-shots out there?

If you're moderately good at improvising -- and the silly nature of Gamma World means that few things you improv into the game are 'too stupid' -- you don't need a big adventure or that much of a script. I took about four of the locations in the maps that came with the box set and hastily...

Favorite Change in any D&D edition

I agree, though I think the best incarnation of 3rd edition multi-classing was in Star Wars SAGA Edition. 3rd Edition multi-classing invited some very odd combinations from players (not the fault of the designers, mind you) and introduced way more prestige classes than were necessary. In SAGA...

What kind of setting "fluff" do YOU want to see in an RPG?

Indeed. One of the things I like about Eberron and Dark Sun, is that there's so much tension all over the place that you the number of plot hooks to hang adventures on are practically endless. In some ways, I'd rather have that hook-ability over any concept of verisimilitude or coherence...

    Why Play D&D?

No and yes, but mostly no. D&D isn't TRYING to become structured, but rather, designers try to give DMs the tools to give a sense of structure to how the stories emerge from the actions of the players and the elements they interact with. That's like saying videogames are trying to become...

Funny quotes from the Game Table

It's the equivalent of subtitles. He could have said "And you hear "RAAAAIIIISSSSHHHNNIIIEEELLL" but he decided that interpretation is not something that should be left too much to the player's imagination. As such it was ""ARRRRGGHH!" in Elvish" Clarity is very important when a DM narrates.

    Banned for mentioning CBLoader...

This. One can actually make a case for whether or not the CBLoader is doing anything 'wrong' on a legal/IP dimension. But defensible legality of the CBLoader is not the only factor in the suspension/ban.

    Banned for mentioning CBLoader...

I do think that being banned for mentioning it is a bit much... ...and I do agree that WotC mods have the right to say what people shouldn't or should be allowed to talk about on their forums insofar as a topic may have a relationship to the use of their IP.... ...but it's only a 24 hour ban...

Let's say D&D ceases to exist...what do you play?

I'd start running Star Wars SAGA Edition regularly, Continue to play Shadowrun as much as my GM can run it, and start pulling out the old Marvel Super Heroes FASERIP system.

    Why Play D&D?

I agree! I'll admit that I'm not the big videogamer anymore, but as someone who still remembers the days when adventure gamers, role-playing gamers and strategy gamers would call action games dumb simply because they didn't demand explicit brain work, it's unfair to say that pen and paper games...

What kind of setting "fluff" do YOU want to see in an RPG?

Near perfect? What more do you need? I think perhaps Grace Park/Katee Sackhoff sandwiches and tea would improve attendance drastically.

Favorite Change in any D&D edition

Indeed. I didn't play much D&D, but I read enough and played enough adaptations to know that this is the most confusing and befuddling defense system ever.

Funny quotes from the Game Table

The gamist conceits of 4th Edition lend themselves to some very funny remarks at my table. We have an ongoing conversation about the bloodied mechanic. "How do you bloody a door?" "Maybe it gets splintered?" "Does that mean skeletons get marrowed?" "So when the crone statue was at half hit...

Wizards: Musings on the new DDi disaster

I think you and the OP are more on the same page than either of you would think, insofar as I agree with both of you. I don't think Wizards owes any of us anything, or anything like that but I think the fundamental concern at the heart of the OP is that this disaster comes from: a) WotC not...

D&D 4E The still "complete" list of official 4E products, now with 2011!

It's too bad. I actually liked those Races books because they worked well for newer players or younger people -- essentially the innocent demographic -- who are more inclined to latch onto a race they think is cool. (Imagine the 7 year old who's all like, "I wanna be a dragon, RAAAA!" and then...

So, how many are avoiding Essentials?

I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic or not. :P But regardless, Pathfinder isn't much different from 3.5 and IS different from 3.5. For one thing, because of the class-based design of 3.5, where the base operational mechanics differ between one another, (as opposed to the 'unified...
