[Rant] Do editing/proofreading errors drive you mad, too?

Typos and errors can annoy me, more so in novels and nonfiction books than in game books. WotC looks like a paragon of perfection compared to most other RPG companies, especially third-party d20 publishers. That doesn't mean it's excusable for WotC, but at least they own up to it and publish...

Previews for Dungeon 146 and Dragon 355 (May 2007)

OK, but that doesn't really invalidate anything I wrote. The main complaint seems to have been that WotC put that template on their website in 2004, and now Dragon will have insect lycanthropes in the Creature Catalog.

Previews for Dungeon 146 and Dragon 355 (May 2007)

Yeah, and not everyone's friends have internet access. There are still significant portions of the population that aren't on the internet. Plus, that template shouldn't preclude any other attempt at insect lycanthropes (even if I personally think it's a silly concept). It's like complaining...

    Wolfgang's "Demonweb Q&A"

Your point being...? If you don't want to have them as PCs, then disallow them in your campaign. What's the problem?

Previews for Dungeon 146 and Dragon 355 (May 2007)

That's an extremely weak retort, and smacks of an elitist "let them eat cake" attitude. Besides that, that template is likely completely different from what will be in Dragon. Paizo may have to work closely with WotC, but they're still separate entities.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

No need to thank me. Hell, it's a hoot to recommend a book like "The Peshawar Lancers" to Gary Gygax, and find that he's actually read and enjoyed it! After all, your "recommended reading" list in the 1e DMG was pretty much my list of "must read" books for a long time. Heck, I just recently got...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

It's a fun book, and the appendix contains a rundown of the history of the world from about 1878 to the early 21st century, which would make for a great campaign background resource. If you like that book quite a bit, check out Stirling's recent "The Sky People." It's another alternate...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

The ones I read, the "Kern" trilogy set in Cimmeria, were decent enough. They're solid swords & sorcery, and don't really try to emulate Howard's style, which is a good thing. Howard's prose is inimitable. Hyboria is a great setting, and it's nice to see it utilized. Certainly nothing can...

Why can't PRC's do the opposite? Maybe that's why they touch a nerve.

I think that is the strength of the concept. PrC's should be either carefully selected or created by a DM for his campaign. They help make each DM's world unique. Based on many of the complaints I've seen online, I think a lot of problems with PrC's stem from the notion that any and every PrC...

Why can't PRC's do the opposite? Maybe that's why they touch a nerve.

The fact that they're called "prestige" classes strongly implies specialization of some sort. It implies that the character has focused his efforts to become good at specific things. The thing is, I'm finding it hard to A) understand how a Prestige Class could be less specialized than the base...

Why can't PRC's do the opposite? Maybe that's why they touch a nerve.

Sure it does. PrC's are specifically about specialization. Do the opposite? What specifically would that be? Generalization? If you want to be more generalized, you'd stick with the base classes, not a PrC. The only way I can see PrC's being faulted for overspecialization would be in the case...

Stats for the Circle of Eight?

If I'm not mistaken, Warnes Starcoat is one of the pregen characters in Isle of the Ape, so his 1e stats appear there.

    Counter-intuitive monsters

Since when? Even in 1e, it was clear that the illustration of the mimic as a chest was just an example of what it could mimic. It can mimic just about any inanimate object as long as it fits within the limits of the creature's basic dimensions.

    Counter-intuitive monsters

Just in case you were thinking PC was Gary Gygax, he's not. Gary does post here, though, under the screen name Col_Pladoh. Look for the "Ask Gary Gyax" thread on this very forum. Here's the current one: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=171753&page=1&pp=40

Stats for the Circle of Eight?

Can you provide a direct link? My internet-search-fu is weak; even after clicking on the links in your sig I'm not finding this.

Is Eberron a dead world yet?

While this is purely anecdotal, of course, I've heard quite a positive buzz about Eberron from gamers I've talked to lately. So I imagine it's likely to be around a while, even into a hypothetical 4e.

Stats for the Circle of Eight?

The Circle of Eight stats in LGJ 0 weren't full stats. As I recall, all that was given was class, level, ability scores, and a lot of background and history text.

What does "four color" refer to?

It comes from the printing process for comic books, at least ones from a decade or two ago. The process involved four basic colors - cyan, magenta, yellow, and black - which, when combined in various ways, would produce a whole range of colors.
