D&D 5E (2014) Do you allow adult situations in your games?

Just forced myself to finish Elminster in Hell because I'd enjoyed The Herald, Making of a Mage, and Elminster in Myth Drannor so much. What a train wreck. Should have trusted my gut and taken Temptation of Elminster as a warning. Fortunately Elminster's Daughter is back to Greenwood's usual...

D&D 5E (2014) The free online crunch: I don't think it's going to be as much as we think it is.

I'm not sure if this confirms or kills the OP's hypothesis, but: https://twitter.com/JeremyECrawford/status/557672886002262016 "The genasi and the new spells in Princes of the Apocalypse will be a free download." "The download will have a few other goodies, which could see print later...

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

Just an observation: If all the conflict in 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons is set in the Forgotten Realms because the villains in question tried their schemes on other worlds in past editions and failed there, that still doesn't make the core setting of 5th Edition the multiverse.

This really belonged in the other thread. Carry on.

D&D 5E (2014) A DM in need of assistance: the Interior of Tiamat's Temple

You can actually get there without flying, but you can neither tarry nor hurry.

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

Somewhat tragically, because I know I'm never going to get my detailed poster map of the Cage, there is no need for such a product: http://www.dndclassics.com/product/17274/In-the-Cage-A-Guide-to-Sigil-2e?it=1&filters=0_44712_0

    D&D 5E (2014) Wizards Should Hire Paizo

This. Keep your chocolate out of my peanut butter. Pathfinder is Pathfinder, and D&D5 is D&D5. If there is an OGL this time around, and Paizo fielded a D&D5 development team, I would hesitate before buying any of their material where I would not necessarily hesitate to buy a Pathfinder...

Warforged, Kender, Multiverses, & Errata - An Eclectic News Summary!

I haven't given up hope yet, but the more time that passes (and the more iconic elements of other worlds get shoehorned into FR) the more worried I become that, "the core setting of D&D5 is the multiverse," is another way of saying, "your only limits are those of your imagination." Yeah, well...

    The Official Elemental Evil Announcement

It is also conceivable that none of the prophets are members of PC races, the water prophet is a marid, and the fire prophet is an alu-fiend (or even a full-blooded fiend). I was thinking about the question in terms of available races but neither the avariel or the maedar fit that criterion.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which non-Realmsian setting for you?

I don't care what order they come out in as long as we eventually see NEW MATERIAL from at least these: Dragonlance (the NEW MATERIAL rule is relaxed for this one; I would love a retcon just after Summer Flame) Mystara Planescape Ravenloft Spelljammer World of Greyhawk Dark Sun and Eberron...

Given they are being introduced in the product, it seems likely that he is a water genasi.

    The Official Elemental Evil Announcement

To play devil's advocate, past D&D video games have not been scared to range far afield from their core setting and Neverwinter is no different. The Baldur's Gate games involve some planar travel, and D&D Online's last few modules have been set in the Realms rather than Eberron. Although it...

    Dragonlance Dragonlance Reflected in D&D5

Hussar, thanks for the thoughts. For now, I think I'm going to leave things as they are for three reasons: One, not every class gets Extra Attack, and the Knight is not prevented from /eventually/ getting it, Two, the free feat at 9th level helps mitigate the delay, and Three, there's really...

    D&D 5E (2014) THIEF as in thief

Agreed. I forgot the rapier wasn't light. If you're going to multiclass, do it after you get a feat; feats are locked to class level in this edition so if you've got three classes at 3rd level you've got a 9th level character with no feats.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Cleric really one of the ‘core four’ anymore?

That's nonsense. D&D is more than 40 years old. It predates the vast majority of currently running fantasy novel series, not to mention the entire history of the narrative video game. Thousands upon uncounted thousands of pages have been written detailing its rules and lore. Make your...

    D&D 5E (2014) THIEF as in thief

My apologies if this is obtuse, but maybe you should consider playing a thief if you want to play a thief. Lightfoot halfling 18 Dexterity (20 with racial bonus) Charlatan background (Criminal is kind of a waste for a Rogue, and Charlatan gives you disguise kit proficiency) Rogue class (take...

D&D 5E (2014) PC Alignment, who needs it?

I have three things for you, Erik42: a request, a recommendation, and a revision. - If you remove alignment, please require /more/ than two words of the players in terms of characterization, and not less. - If you remove alignment, consider redefining the Outer Planes more drastically, because...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Cleric really one of the ‘core four’ anymore?

TSR did eventually provide rules for playing a Christian cleric. I believe they were first printed in the Glory of Rome supplement to AD&D2 and I am hard pressed to believe they were not reprinted in some form in the later historical supplements, Charlemagne's Paladins and A Mighty Fortress...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Cleric really one of the ‘core four’ anymore?

It no longer matters. D&D is its own canon. Are you seriously making the assertion that in the last 15 years (since the launch of the original class-glut edition) the Cleric has fallen more out of use than the Fighter? That the Cleric's universally superior healing skills are somehow less...

    Dragonlance Dragonlance Reflected in D&D5

I'm still not really comfortable about telling players, "You can specialize in this kind of magic or be this alignment, but not both." The elephant in the room here is evocation. There are no white robed war wizards? That poses all kinds of questions. But your theory is sound. If it had to...
