males playing females and the other way around, opinions?

About half of the character's I play are female, and almost every guy in my group has played a female character at one point or another. As long as they're playing a character and not an unsightly charicature produced by they're warped perspective on "gender roles", I'm cool with it. It's also...

Man, Lords of Madness are looking awesome!!

I mention this pretty much any time the question of minis I'd like to see pops up, but - hybsils. They'd be a real challenge to produce (being small-sized, centaur-like creatures), but they'd be awesome to see. (And hey, you could even tie them in with the Neverwinter Campaign Guide. See...

D&D 3.x gamers who skipped 4e, why are you not "upgrading" to Pathfinder?

I have a shelf just bursting with 3.5 books. Pathfinder was just different enough to cause compatibility nuisances with the material I have, but not different enough to be intriguing to the point of justifying a new game. (I also dislike the art style, but that's not really a factor.) So right...

    Your RPG achievements

I introduced pretty much my whole gaming group to pen and paper RPGs, including two who now frequently DM, one of which has run a whole slew of the most vast, cohesive campaigns I have ever had the privelege to play in. That's probably what I'm most proud of - The people I've managed to get...

    Your Favorite Monsters, And Why

Owlbears- Because despite any silliness that may or may not be inherent in the concept, they can be pretty terrifying in-game. The power of a bear, and the mad, relentless pursuit of some crazed bird of prey. The owl features make for a nice dose of creepy. Gnolls- Hyenas are already a pretty...

Would you repurchase MM1 and MM2?

I get the feeling that this is already essentially in the works. The Monster Vault looks like it covers both updated mechanics and more thorough story content. "This essential product for Dungeon Masters collects the most iconic monsters of the Dungeons & Dragons world in one handy box and...

    Someone has MM3 at RPG.Net

So we're getting closer to having the tarantella back. The Feyspitter just teaches a different style. :p I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of this book...

Player costuming, props etc in "table top" games.

The character I'm playing right now doesn't share my gender, and I have a feeling that if I came in full costume it would be... distracting. I've never actually used costume pieces in my games, but in the 4e game I run we use a tin urn that has a greek battle scene on it to hold glass counters...

    Desert Island RPG

They'd all be blank sketchbooks, which I would write and illustrate my own within. With that kind of time I could afford the trial and error, and writing my own would allow me to make optimal use of whatever other resources there are at hand. (Dice, differently shaped rocks, small lizards...)...

Psionic Nazi Slaver Dwarves!! PART I

From the thread title my mind instantly jumped to duergar, which basically are psionic nazi slaver dwarves. At least in my games. Still interested in looking through the post though.

Beholder pack of minis this fall

I'm not sure my players are high enough level that these would ever see use for me. Especially considering I already have a Beholder, Beholder Lich, Beholder Ultimate Tyrant, and Gauth, none of which have ever seen use at my table. For that matter, I'm not sure I would ever use more than one at...

The Return of the Game in a Box!

There's something magical about boxed sets. They're bulky, probably an inefficient use of space, and likely cost more to ship, but they feel really, really nice to have in one's collection. Or to start one's collection. The diversity opened up in what they can pack in there is great too.

    Warlock basics

I would not be surprised at all if these feats hit print in "Player Essentials: Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms". Since I'm not a DDI user, like the idea of another copy of character creation rules at my table, and think $20 is a pretty sweet price point, it would certainly please me.

Experience Points? Who Needs 'Em? My 4E Eberron Campaign

I have literally never played in or run a game where experience points were tracked. This may have something to do with my cousin, who introduced me, not tracking them when we played, and the fact that I introduced nearly all the other DMs I've played with to the game. Laziness prevails? Eh...

    The New Red-Box...

To me the "Player Essentials: Heroes of the-" books in particular look like a great deal, even though I have a PHB. Having an extra set or two of things like character creation rules, and details on the different skills etc. is always welcomed at my game tables. The PHB is the most grabbed-for...

    The New Red-Box...

I think they're already starting to do that in terms of adventures, Joe. The Monster Vault comes with a 32 page adventure, and the DM's kit comes with two more 32-page adventures. There are some things I really like about the boxed-set format... given they're a subsidiary of Hasbro, to be honest...

    The New Red-Box...

Hah! I hadn't even noticed that. I think that's both awesome, and potentially a bad move. It's really, really discordant with 4e's current art style. That said, maybe they're looking to shake things up in more ways than one. The covers for the "Heroes of the-" books seem to have a somewhat...

    The New Red-Box...

Maybe so, but it looks like the product catalog entries have been updated a bit from the descriptions you listed there. Dungeon Master's Kit "Game components: * 256-page book of rules and advice for Dungeon Masters * Two 32-page adventures * 2 sheets of die-cut monster tokens...

Your introduction to D&D: what order of books?

Personally, I was way too young to remember what books were at the table when I was introduced. (If any.) I was 6, and my cousin was running little adventures for a bunch of the family. I think he was using a blend of 1e and 2e rules, but he did most of the mechanical stuff for us. In terms of...
