    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

I don’t know about melee/ranged ac, but firmed up and complexified cover rules as well as removal of cover-ignoring portions of Spell Sniper and Sharpshooter would probably be an overall net good.

D&D 5E (2014) Hypothetical Revised PHB: What Subclasses Makes the Cut?

That’s a pretty big deal, then, as it is an opportunity to fix subclasses that are seen as weak, and I could see that as reason to include many of them. Speaking purely hypothetically, then, as if I were to place bets they would change nothing with respect to archetypes: Boosted versions of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Hypothetical Revised PHB: What Subclasses Makes the Cut?

The deviates from the OP, but it is sort of a question; the available archetypes aren’t all of similar power, so are we selecting from them as-is, or can they be fixed? I can see a better assassin included, but maybe not as it currently stands.

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

Everyone that has an accidental hit thinks they are suddenly market masters: The game Final Fantasy was called that because Squaresoft thought it was to be their swan song, it wasn't. 5.5e or 6e will be a fantastic cash in. Sooner or later their growth figures will dip enough that it seems like...

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

If you think combat is boring I don’t see why you’d play 5e unless you simply aren’t aware of other systems.

    D&D 5E (2014) On capstone class features

It would be nice if there was some uniformity to the stuff they do, the paladin ones are bonkers, the fighter and rogue ones... meh. The warlock one is situationally neat but also sort of meh. In the case of wizards I think their level 18 feature is better then their capstone.

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

3.5 was some rules tweaks, and it was backwards compatible. You could play modules designed with 3.5e in mind in 3e and vice versa. Most likely what will happen with 5e, like it or not. Come to think of it, the story in the early to mid 2000s was about how 3e was part of a DnD resurgent and an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

3.5e sold tons of books (for the time). Hell, 4e sold plenty of books early. And the attempt to take back the SRD was as big a blunder with 4e as anything stylistic in that edition. Probably a bigger blunder than the at will/daily/encounter powers was. Given the size of 5e's player base, a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

The problem is board games are self contained, and changing rules is simple. Not sure for a P&P TTRPB - eventually new editions of books are required, whether that's an updated PHB, a 5.5e, or a 6e. It was for 3e, 3.5e, and 5e.

    What Do Elves Eat, Anyway?

I wouldn't say hipster. More... artisanal. Yeah. Whatever, Lothlórien is dead. Lets all move back to Valinor.

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

5e will be the last edition until WotC/Hasbro decides it is time to cash in on a new edition. They aren't a gaming nonprofit.

D&D 5E (2014) Are humanoid mono-cultures being replaced with the Rule of Three?

But they were too busy printing Salvatore-bucks. It was an entirely foreseeable and avoidable moral outrage. For me, for intelligent creatures, nothing. I recognize that makes some people uncomfortable (I don't wan't to kill intelligent creatures!), but they may not have the.. ah... moral...

D&D 5E (2014) Are humanoid mono-cultures being replaced with the Rule of Three?

I'd much rather play in a world where NPCs have motivations for what they do than a world where they are essentially always randomly spawned to kill me like in an Elder Scrolls game. You can't as easily think of or take a nonviolent path in the latter case - and I think that should be an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

Oh? Is this a new development, or did they also understand evergreen in 1999? Also: evergreen and trading card game are two flavors that do not taste great together.

D&D 5E (2014) Are humanoid mono-cultures being replaced with the Rule of Three?

Sure, but the ”crisis” is largely of their own making. Had they bothered to ask around, they would have been told that people saw orcs and Drow as racially coded in 2013, and they could have built these fixes into the core of 5e instead of patching them on in year 7.

    D&D 5E (2014) Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

Sort of apropos but sort of not, Mearls kind of sort of already gave us a psion in 5e. Though I’d argue not quite, because they’re still tied to spell slots.

D&D 5E (2014) Are humanoid mono-cultures being replaced with the Rule of Three?

It’s a complication of the period (that is, right now). The sooner the game gets stripped of the word the better, for some markets.

D&D 5E (2014) Are humanoid mono-cultures being replaced with the Rule of Three?

If the “evil” elves were decadent high elves with white hair it probably wouldn’t have been the problem it became. They had several decades to reverse course, but they leaned in to Salvatore’s poor writing anyway. And, really, decadent high elves with a failing social structure isn’t even than...
