D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the new 2024 edition d&d?

2 on the excitement level. They made some nice QoL changes, while undoing other things I liked. While addressing none of the actual issues I have with 5e. All while splitting the playerbase. If you want the three new core books, you have to basically shell out £100 for a balance patch.

D&D General If you were made president of D&D, what would you do?

Oh yeah, I totally agree that Dark Sun isn't any 'edition saver'. Ultimately it's just another mid level popularity setting. The only setting which I could possibly see being something to completely reinvigorate an entire edition, or even launch a new edition off, would be a brand new setting...

D&D General If you were made president of D&D, what would you do?

Going by how popular different main subreddits are, Dark Sun sits at 8.8k subscribers. That's more than Ravinica, Theros, and Planescape (7.6k, 6.1k, and 4.8k respectively). It's not far behind both Spelljammer and Dragonlance, both of which sit at 11k subscribers. Ravenloft sits at 8.9k subs...

    D&D 5E (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

Yeah Thor and Hulk are basically what I picture as level 20 martials. It's also the reason I prefer playing at levels 1-10. Because I enjoy a more grounded experience.

    D&D 5E (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

I mean yeah I agree there. It was more of a pushback against people arguing that martials should be magical even at low level. In tiers 3 and 4, you kind of have to be supernatural, as you're literally fighting gods in some cases. Though even there you can make things 'seem' less supernatural by...

D&D General If you were made president of D&D, what would you do?

(not everyone who wants Dark Sun is over 40. I'm 31).

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the Sorcerer?

Yeah currently their entire identity is 'hot wizard with a feat glued on'. I'd love innate sorcery and subclasses which really impact the playstyle of the class to be their identity though. Essentially becoming the 'play as a monster class'. Bonus points if you have a subclass which is 'one of...

D&D General If you were made president of D&D, what would you do?

I'd argue that there is probably a decent amount of people who would enjoy a gritty survival type campaign, especially with Dune being popular right now. It's historically a big part of DnD which is just ignored this edition.

    D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorm Sorcerer upgrades. (+)

One thing I'm desperate to change is how metamagic interacts with subclasses. Currently their only interaction is 'using your subclass abilities drains your tiny pool of resources needed to use your class abilities'. I don't like metamagic even being a sorcerer thing, but as it is, then each...

D&D General If you were made president of D&D, what would you do?

I actually think it might hurt more than it would help. It would be stripped down with everything which makes Dark Sun what it is removed, then combined with the 'just make everything up' attitude of all the more recent setting books. We've already seen complaints and loss of goodwill from...

D&D General If you were made president of D&D, what would you do?

Honestly this question would have been so much easier a few years ago. The answer would have been: - Buy DnD Beyond. and - Bring out PHB2, covering new classes + artificer.

    D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorm Sorcerer upgrades. (+)

I'd probably make it run off spell points for a start, and have innate sorcery as its core class mechanic. The innate sorcery then ties into subclasses, doing unique things for each one (leaning into the 'become the monster' theme). They'd still retain their low spells known, which would be made...

D&D General If you were made president of D&D, what would you do?

As much as I'm desperate for a Dark Sun setting in 5e, I have 0 faith that they could pull it off well. They'd end up stripping out everything which makes Dark Sun what it is.

D&D General If you were made president of D&D, what would you do?

Honestly, whoever is coming next is in a really bad spot. They're late in the development of 5.5e, which is looking to be received with the biggest 'meh' in DnD history. The virtual tabletop seems to be living in development hell. Most of their most recent books have been received extremely...

WotC Who should be the next President of WotC?

Yeah that's the thing. Lots of people look back on the original dnd as the best days. Many look back on 3.5, or even 4e as the best days. I consider Xanathar's release to be the peak of DnD personally. Like sure, I've liked lots of new things since then, but over time there has been more and...

WotC WotC President Cynthia Williams Resigns

    D&D 5E (2024) The sorcerer shouldn't exist

This. When I want to play someone like aragorn, hawkeye, jon snow, black widow, felix jaeger, or any number of mundane but extraordinary people in DnD, I don't want to be told 'nope not allowed'.

WotC WotC President Cynthia Williams Resigns

The short notice is interesting, to the point where they don't even know who to appoint as her successor yet.

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

On the contrary, I'd only put Batman as something like a level 11 martial. He's good, but he's not even touching some of the high or even mid level DnD monsters in combat. At least 1v1 without prep. 'Batman with prep' is a meme in of itself.

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

Yeah the whole 'zero to hero' is the character type I love the most. But over the years it seems like DnD is moving away from that. And talking with people on here and other places like reddit, it seems like most of the community wants it to move away from that, and towards 'hero to demigod'...
