D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

I personally really dislike this aspect of the class. We see all these complaints about how XYZ class should just be a subclass. But somehow 'wizard, but hot' gets a free pass to eat up a class spot in the PHB.

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

We could remove ranger (the primal half caster bowman) and make it into subclasses. And then add seeker (the primal half caster bowman) as a full class. That way the ranger crowd can argue over there and leave us who want a primal half-caster class in peace.

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

This is one which I'm always torn with. On one hand it does feel a bit like just a stat tax, due to every character basically needing it as their 2nd or 3rd highest stat, while it's not used for any skills or directly as a stat you think about. On the other hand, keep away from my 8 con monk...

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

I'm still baffled how we have so few half-casters, and yet people are still determined to remove the few we have and turn them into subclasses. I'd rather have more half-casters, not less.

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

It's a shame they won't work on dnd beyond.

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

I'd only accept ranger as a rogue or fighter subclass if we got warden, seeker, or shaman as a primal half-caster in its place.

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

At some point a lot of people seemed to stop seeing the stats as meaning anything in-world, and just instead being 'arbitrary attack stat 1-6'. The constant gamification is something I really dislike about the 4th and 5th edition directions.

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

Yeah I was thinking about that and it does create weird issues which would result in the concept not working well. Rather than starting high resources and gradually running out until it needs a rest, it's changing from one state to another, both being effective. Which kind of breaks the balance...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

Yeah I think that was the issue a lot of people had. The class didn't make a good sorcerer. But I definitely feel that it's unique enough to be its own separate class if the sorcerer lore got ripped out.

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

I was reading through the original 5e playtest material again, and the original idea for the 5e sorcerer is one I've always found fascinating. A class which spends will points to gradually become the monster or aspect which their bloodline is linked to. Obviously the whole idea wasn't popular...

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

For the beast I prefer to pick a beast from the MM of a certain max CR, and than it's bonus action to command it to attack. Like a combo of 2014 and 2024.

    D&D General Have Some Class

The PF2E official Kineticist is the one I'm familiar with. Honestly it's a real shame that not only does dnd not have an elementalist class, they've not even got a set of elementalist subclasses for an existing class. The closest we got was the sorcerer, and they got killed in UA.

    D&D General Have Some Class

Duskblade/Magus/Swordmage is by far my favorite, especially when given an elemental theme. Likewise, I just love the kineticist.

D&D General The joys of playing a PC with low stats

I really do wish that point buy would allow at least a 7 in stats. It feels like you're not really allowed a real weakness when using it or standard array. I dislike rolling due to how it can make parties feel so poorly balanced, but the ability to get lower than 8 in a score is one thing I...

Wizards of the Coast Hiring New Lead Designer and Head of Game Ecosystem for D&D

It failed the potato test. Which meant that it would never have been successful.

    D&D 5E (2024) Psion Class: Green/Yellow/Red?

Looking at the strawpoll from reddit, psion is 100% getting cancelled. https://strawpoll.com/eJnvV22dMnv

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

Honestly, I don't care if it's the 'warlord' or a completely different martial support class. I just want a martial support class. It's the largest mechanical gap left in 5e, and one I feel needs filling above anything else.

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

Swordmage still has a lot of people who want it as well. I'd put it alongside warlord and psion there too. It's probably the class I see people ask for the most.

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

Honestly if I had a choice between my most wanted class (the swordmage) or the warlord. And I could add only one to 5e. I'd still pick the warlord. I don't think there is a single possible class which fills as large of a gap as the warlord does.

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

I really hope we get a warlord this time around. A support based pure martial is a gap which is basically untouched in 5e.
