D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

I feel we need Wizards and Warlocks... The sorcerer though, that can go. It's a wasted class slot.

There is no problem which cannot be solved with cannons.

    D&D 5E (2024) Elves without racism [+]

I kind of like how pathfinder 2e has handled species. If you want you can really focus on more feats which make that species insanely impactful and unique. Yeah I think their 'pick out of a choice of 600 different feats' is over the top, but I'd love to see species being made way more impactful...

tfw I've always pictured orcs as British football hooligans.

I suspect what's driven 90% of this conversation isn't the miniature or concept of adventurers in wheelchairs directly. It's people attacking those who have the opposite opinion of it which has kept the entire thread going for so many posts.

    D&D 5E (2024) Elves without racism [+]

Many species are getting features which appear once you reach a certain level, or have uses equal to proficiency bonus. This keeps these features relevant as you level. The reason I like separate species is that it helps to create interesting settings and worlds. Unique species all with their...

    D&D 5E (2024) Elves without racism [+]

You could make that argument for classes too. Rather than forcing one particular set of features, allow characters to pick their features one by one and figure out their own build. In fact there are numerous classless systems. You could remove different species and it would work perfectly fine...

Honestly I'm finding the bastion system less realistic than adventurers in wheelchairs. Owning a home is truly an immersion breaking fantasy element.

How I feel when DnD players ban firearms while talking about how rapiers are totally medieval.

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

Evergreen? As in constantly dropping pine needles and poisoning the forest floor for any other life trying to spring up, leading to a barren environment beyond that one species?

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

I've done essentially the opposite. Specifically designed a setting where almost everything is usable so players have as much freedom as possible. (apart from odd cases like dragonmarked houses and ravinica backgrounds.) Sure, if I wasn't building from DnD I'd probably have orcs as the...

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

5e is essentially the worst of both worlds for me. Few classes, and most subclasses don't really change how the core class plays much either. It's why I love the artificer so much. Most of the power budget is in the subclass rather than the main class, and you get it piled on early too. Every...

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

In theory I wouldn't actually mind as few 3 classes. As long as the bulk of the mechanics and customisation is in the subclass, and they're far far more impactful than the 5e subclasses are. Stuff like switching around what abilities you use for mechanics, or what type of casting you use. I...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you think the Ranger will be put in line with the new Smite formula?

I'll be mad if true polymorph becomes just a template. Removes the fun part of the spell. Ascending to being a true dragon for a dragonborn is such a classic trope for them, and that's the only possible method.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you think the Ranger will be put in line with the new Smite formula?

Yeah I've wondered the same. It would suck if ranger's own smite spell got left on the old mechanics.

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

I'm basically creating a from scratch 'enemy creature' for my homebrew setting. Not playable at all. Because it would suck for a player if they've thought of a cool orc character, then come along and find that in the setting all orcs are non sapient monsters. At this point, playable orcs are...

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

As soon as they let orcs be player characters, the 'always evil' was never going to work. If they want some violent and low intelligence species that raids and eats human/elf/dwarf settlements using primitive weapons, it cannot be a playable species.

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

Even if ranger got turned into a pure martial or merged with rogue/fighter, I'd still want a primal themed half caster as its own class.

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

Surely you could solve that by presenting clear and simple options for the people who want something as streamlined as possible, while providing more complex options and build paths for those wanting complexity? For example you could have an overarching class group (e.g. warrior) which has a...

D&D General Which of these should be core classes for D&D?

I do wonder if the 'class groups' idea from 1dnd could be a potential way to bring the 'more classes' and the 'less classes' people together. Currently the two positions seem completely incompatible with each other. Class groups essentially adds another layer above classes, with shared...
