    D&D General Dragonborn Physical Features

Nice to see people are offended about what I do with the lore in my own setting. Making dragons into reptiles is completely unrelated to making everything a spell in DnD. I utterly despise the trend of making literally everything into a spell. And this trend of making everything 'spectral' or...

    D&D General Dragonborn Physical Features

Nothing wrong with some people preferring a more internally consistent world with more scientific rules and less pure fantasy. Different people just enjoy different things. Nothing needs 'stopping'. There isn't any harm to the rest of the DnD community if one player group decides not to have...

    D&D General Dragonborn Physical Features

It largely depends on the individual person's lore. Some dragons might be related to lizards and snakes, others might be related to archosaurs, such as dinosaurs and pterosaurs (easier to explain with 4 limbed dragons than 6 with limbed dragons). And then others might have them as purely...

    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock -- initial analyses

Honestly really hoping we get a draconic warlock this time around. Their refusal to add one in 5e so far has been a real head scratcher. Ideally based around becoming more dragon-like, due to the draconic sorcerer abandoning that approach to become a dragon summoner.

    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock -- initial analyses

I'm honestly just not a fan of reflavouring something as something else which already exists in the game. I'd prefer to use the rules for a bow. Not just cast spells and pretend I'm using a bow. There are a lot of situations I enjoy reflavouring in. This isn't one of them though.

    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock -- initial analyses

Damn, still no option for ranged bladelocks. I've been wanting to make a bow wielding celestial bladelock for years.

    D&D 5E (2014) New class niche?

Yeah I've noticed in fiction that runes have been used several times for gish like characters, so it could work in making them more thematically unique. The catch though, is that in DnD lore, runes are super exclusive to giants thematically, making it very hard to base classes around them. It...

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

I'd honestly prefer feat based multiclassing. Taking feats to pick up the signature features of other classes (like pathfinder 2e).

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

I like the theory of multiclassing, but the 5e multiclassing system is insanely bad. 90% chance of making a useless character which drags the party down, 10% change of creating an overpowered munchkin. It's like they designed it on the Friday afternoon before the game shipped and didn't even...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

Sadly I don't think it's possible for the idea to get anywhere anymore, or any other class idea. The DnD designers have stated that they want less classes, rather than more, so if some future edition did come out we'd probably be looking at the class list being reduced instead. Could easily...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

Ranger text does specially talk about how they specialise in hunting down monsters which threaten civilisation. "Warriors of the wilderness, rangers specialize in hunting the monsters that threaten the edges of civilization—humanoid raiders, rampaging beasts and monstrosities, terrible giants...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

Yeah this crossed my mind as well. Perhaps that while a ranger deals with things from within the natural world, the arcane caster deals is more focused from things outside of it? As well as being specialised anti mages, they're also dedicated to fighting extraplanar threats such as celestials...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

I find the paladin incredibly restrictive and defined in how it 'should be' whenever I've considered playing it. Perhaps the most restrictive in the game. Though this particularly ties into its mechanics, which are strictly divine focused with almost no subclass variation. Every single time I...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

I feel that broad strokes is the best approach for it, but with some common points and specifics. "Person who uses arcane magic + martial ability to either fight casters and magical entities, and/or guard forbidden lore and artifacts." That can be span in practically any way for backstory, and...

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

I'd even argue that the existence of the fighter class is actively damaging to DnD. It prevents any other martial concepts from existing, and is so broad that I endlessly see people saying that barbarian, monk, ranger, and paladin should just be fighter subclasses.

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

Every single class except fighter has narrative guidelines (though wizard has very little). Building a narrative into the class is an expectation of DnD.

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

Yeah this is exactly the direction I feel that it would be a good idea to go down narratively. Individuals who use a combination of arcane magic and martial ability to protect society from magical threats such as spellcasters. I also feel that they could also lean into the idea of protecting...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Great. Sounds like it's going to become a complete pain to keep using pure 2014. Having to manually scroll through the rulebooks rather than just mouse over tooltips. And having older versions of spells outright removed.
