D&D 5E (2024) Bastion rules: every pub owner is at least 13th level

I've got to say, one complaint I have these rules is that they don't feel linked to the game world at all. They're just arbitrary 'player mechanics'. Like the facilities being unable to be bought but materialise onto your fort when you level up. 5e has always had this problem, but it's been...

D&D 5E (2024) Bastion rules: every pub owner is at least 13th level

I like what I'm seeing with the bastion system (apart from the fact that the artificer can't even use the smithy). Main change I'd want to see though is switching the focus away from a bastion per player, and towards a 'party bastion'. Five players, each with their own bastion, and each doing 8...

By itself a simple +2 can't define a species. Same as just one minor ability like skill/weapon prof or a language doesn't define one. But over time, one by one, each of these is being removed or moved elsewhere, and over time this does start eroding the differences between species when nothing...

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

It's a shame that the old sword and sorcery isn't a genre covered at all by DnD anymore. Dark Sun as the last vestiges of it, and they've confirmed that setting has been axed. I like high/epic fantasy, but I don't want that to be almost everything.

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

Trouble is, there is a gradual push for even 1st level characters to be more and more powerful.

D&D 5E (2014) Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

This is something I dislike about modern dnd. Everyone is insanely high magic compared to what it used to be. In earlier editions there was no question about the basic fighter or thief being mundane rather than magical, and some people enjoy that. The current direction is extremely alienating...

    D&D 5E (2024) Size = Strength-Constitution?

    Shame 5e refuses to do one creature having multiple types. ;-;

    D&D 5E (2024) Size = Strength-Constitution?

Many irl creatures of different species can hybridise, sometimes creating entirely new and separate species. I've never viewed 'humanoid' as equivalent to 'homo'. I've just viewed 'humanoid' as 'sapient, capable of language and complex tool use, and has free will' Two things in that category...

    D&D 5E (2024) Size = Strength-Constitution?

Species: "A group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding. The species is the principal natural taxonomic unit, ranking below a genus and denoted by a Latin binomial, e.g. Homo sapiens." Of course we know that's a rather rough...

    D&D 5E (2024) Size = Strength-Constitution?

If a bunch of aliens turned up in their flying saucers and flew down to earth. And said aliens slightly resembled humans (upright, two arms, two legs). But said aliens were also twice as physically strong as humans, it wouldn't be racist to say x humanoid species (aliens) is stronger than y...

    D&D 5E (2024) Size = Strength-Constitution?

I'd rather that halflings were made more distinct, rather than just turning them into a variation of human. (Also as far as we can tell from the lore, halflings can't interbreed with humans, which put them as a distinct species despite the cosmetic similarities).

    D&D 5E (2024) Size = Strength-Constitution?

Nah I think that size and stats should remain unconnected. If for example you have some giant hollow blimp like creature which has to use wind currents to get around, it might be extremely low Str and Con, but gargantuan in size. Likewise if you have some tiny metal elemental insect like thing...

    D&D 5E (2024) Elves without racism [+]

Thing is, it's true that at this point halflings are just 'lucky smallish humans'. Because over the years every difference between them and the other species has been whittled away one by one. Every one of these changes individually hasn't prevented them being completely unique and worth...

Long gone are the days where a player would roll up Bob the human fighter with two words as his entire backstory. Then march him into a dungeon only to die at the first obstacle. Then next session roll up with Rob the human fighter and do the exact same thing. Certain dungeons were apparently a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Elves without racism [+]

ngl, with the changes in the latest 1dnd playtest, I'm questioning the need for a division between small and medium anymore. Every single difference is being removed one by one over time. At this point just merge them into a single size category. They generally already use the same base size...

I feel it should be a setting by setting thing. Dwarves and elves don't hate each other by default in a vacuum. However in a particular setting their cultures or nations may be hostile to one another or even openly at war.
