What Would Far Realm Creatures Do With 31 Dead Goblins?

The characters stumble across stacks of Soylent Green, adjacent to a pile of the goblin's equipment.

I agree, which is why looking back at p.139 of the DMG 3.5 bugs me. There's this "Highest Level Locals" table that you roll on to see what the highest level people are in the community. Even in a small town you have a pretty good shot at getting some level 7's and 8's of PC classes.

Sure, in the same way that any house rule, ever, punishes someone who wanted or liked what the house rule changed. For instance, I banned Bloodclaw Weapons (before errata) in my game, so was I punishing the melee min-maxer who would have taken it? If yes, then it's hard to take your diction of...

    D&D 4E 4e Pokemon Tabletop RPG

Cool. I would collapse History and Legend, they're essentially the same thing. If they are supposed to be separate, that makes history a lot more boring (and honestly I think it already is borderline useless in a normal 4E game) if you don't know any interesting legends relevant to the game...

I don't see what's inherent about resurrection, or why anyone "should" get rid of magic in general just because they don't like the raise dead dynamic. We have the technology, in real life that is, to basically create fireballs and cones of cold. Not out of nothing, but still. But we still can't...

I'm not sure Treebore, to be honest I've never had a character death, and while DMing I've never had a PC die. I agree with the DMG2's advice (or whatever it was originally from, of course,) to make both success and failure something fun. If you succeed in defending your NPC who carries the...

Interesting. I agree with you for the most part, but also feel that it's not so... I don't know, black and white. As a player, I want the possibility of failure so that success feels sweeter. But I don't want to fail! And when I fail, or in the process of failing (dying,) I want to use every...

Very interesting so far. I'm currently considering letting souls return, but the original body once dead can't be remade or restarted. Instead, they can return to specially crafted, er, robots, (warforged) which haven't been in creation for 500 years. You might be able to find one- in the...

    DMless D&D?

This is interesting. Definitely post more if you come up with anything else, this is something I've been wanting to do with a little more... finesse. When I did it in 3.5, we basically just agreed around the table what was tactically best for each monster, and that worked out okay but issues of...

    Mike Mearls Adventure Thingy...

I haven't seen this yet, so thanks! I am always amazed at the creativity of collaboration, and how much more detailed and often times interesting it is than anything I make up on my own.

Ressurection and Drama "Don't worry, we'll rez you after this"

A few years back I was playing "Temple of Elemental Evil," the psuedo baldur's gate type of RPG for the computer. I haven't played the 'real' module, so my experience is solely based on this game. I wasn't impressed with the game at all, but I remember back then realizing how ridiculous the D&D...

    D&D 4E 4e Pokemon Tabletop RPG

Style maybe, but how else is it different? Turn-based RPG with hit points, damage, and status effects. I definitely see potential here. Plant pokemon are primal classes, fire probably arcane, martial to cover the fighting and 'normal.' Admittedly, I haven't played Pokemon in ages, but I think...

"If this problem is so bad, why aren't YOU doing it, NPC?"

Definitely. Leveling systems make it clear that anything that levels beyond maybe 1 or 2 levels is some kind of alien, and you're not really playing a human anymore. Trying to continue to play the game as if the level 30 humans and the level 1 humans are both the same humans that we are, in real...

Simpler Treasure System with (mostly) Random Loot

Cool. I'm interested to know what players would think of this system, rather than wishlists. Personally, I don't even use wishlists, I randomly decide what level items each player will get for the level, they pick what item they want, then I give it out over the course of the adventure. I think...

    Revised Monk Available in Compendium

Well, it's still useful to put on the hill of a king of the hill type of scenario, or to block off part of the battlefield. Then again, if you plow through whatever DM throws at you with no controlling, it definitely is pointless. So far, in my paragon campaign, even throwing encounters 4-5...

The New World style campaign, how would you do it?

Thanks guys, I'll definitely have a look at those. I want enough detail so that the players can macromanage the aspects of the game I mentioned in the original post, but not so much detail that I can't, for instance, change the setting in which the game or ruleset is played in. If I can...
