Successful DM NPCs: fact or fiction?

As DM, my players generally beg me for an NPC party member if I don't include one from the start. I don't think that's the same thing as a "DMPC" though, even if the NPC in question is regarded as an equal party member.

What was your irratating DmPC's backstory?

What I think is funny is how many different DMs I've played with that use THE SAME DMPC's, but the actual DMs have never met one another, and also share little in common besides being D&D DMs. -The Demon--uber-powerful demon (or devil) with annoying voice (because what are you going to do about...

Forked Thread: what do you do when bloodclaw > artifact (& HR just doesn't cut it)

I really like it when people don't argue against your argument...they just try to call you out for maths and such. I really doubt 29 was the "average". More like 29 is ultra high-end AC for a 13 baddie. What it looks like you did is browse the compendium at level 13, and conveniently forgot...

Forked Thread: what do you do when bloodclaw > artifact (& HR just doesn't cut it)

And again, you miss the very basic premise: 20 damage to a level 13 barbarian is barely a drop in the bucket, especially when you're trading that 20 damage for the ability to kill BETWEEN ONE AND TWO monsters of your level. If one feat is "buffed", then you are correct. In that case every...

How to enhance a Warlock at 11th level?

Honestly, if your player wants straight damage, have her roll up a sorcerer. Also, lol @ your party of nothing but strikers. Finally, someone's doing it right. =)

Forked Thread: what do you do when bloodclaw > artifact (& HR just doesn't cut it)

You're right; until, of course, you give it to a level 13 human barbarian with Storm of Blades who action points into it and then gets 5 attacks with +3 to hit that inflict 1d12 + 27 apiece for a measly cost of 15 damage. This being after he raged for God knows how much and if he rolls a single...

    Everyone starts at 1st level

I'd ask "what was the point of revamping the system?" So guys within 1-2 levels of each other being viable in combat is not the same effect as guys withing 1-10 levels of each other being viable in combat? I'm not sure I follow.

    Everyone starts at 1st level

I'd have to give this type of game a resounding "meh". If I had to play that lowbie, I'd get annoyed very quickly unless I had some cool artifact that made me viable in combat. I don't like playing commoners in a heroes game. It's just not my thing. On top of that, if you have to retool the...

    Revenant up

Seriously. DEX? That's like giving dwarves +Cha, or elves +Con. Does. Not. Fit. Instead of +2 Dex/ +2 Con or previous race, I'd say +2 Con and +2 from one of your previous race's stats. So a dexy elf revenant could get +2 dex...but a clumpy dwarf revenant would have his +Wis, like he should. So...

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

Ehhh...asking someone to "leave your table" over a skill bonus is easily one of the top 5 lamest things I've heard regarding gaming in a long time. "My way or the highway" isn't a good way to keep friends, either. I'll admit that while +23 intimidate at level 4 is hard to swallow, trying it out...

D&D 4E Top 5 Encounter Powers That Need Fixing in 4e

From what I can tell system mastery is still way in. Obviously, since threads such as this wouldn't exist anymore.

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

That right there is what I think some folks are missing. You don't get to just change the DC to 40 for a group of level 4 adventurers because you learned my character has a really high roll. "Oh, you have +23? Well uh..the DC's 40, sorry. Oh, you don't like that, eh? Well, then, instead of...

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

And give us a break with your wild, purposeful misinterpretations of the rules. It clearly states that a check equal to or greater than Will + 10 forces a target to surrender. That means if you're forcing a surrender, that's the DC. They don't get to pick to "be cowed" and not surrender if you...

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

Smart ass. No. The effects are probably listed under the definition of the word. We do still use dictionaries where you're from, correct? The duration is "as long as it needs to be". If you force someone to surrender out of fear, they're not going to start fighting you again unless conditions...

    Superior Training

Except, based on some DDI material I saw, they're releasing "superior implements" with the PHB3, I believe. I don't think it creates new implements, but rather ups your damage dice when using said implement. Soon, we'll be able to fill every single feat slot with nothing but attack and damage...

    Intimidate in combat: viable?

Wrong. If you overcome a challenge, you get experience points. It doesn't matter if you roll Intimidate, beat them to death, or they run away on their own. No, because "new Skill Challenge mechanics" are just as bad, but the other way. Yes it does. "Success: you force a bloodied target to...

D&D 4E Top 5 Encounter Powers That Need Fixing in 4e

It's because of the stupid Bloodclaw weapon, honestly. If you have enough healing in your party, you can basically get unlimited extra damage with that thing. Say we're munchkined out half orc with a 20 str, 15 dex, and a heavy flail, and we get lucky and land the level 6 +2 heavy flail from...

Stacking penalties, solos, and . . . *sigh* sadness. :(

I feel your pain, dude. I hand crafted this monstrosity 8th-level solo for my 5th or 6th level party (been a while, can't remember). It was The Gnoll Queen, she rode a cacklefiend hyena and had 2 of those level 5 or 6-ish gnoll soldiers helping her. Hitting for around 4d6 + 12 or something...
