    D&D 5E (2024) Unearthed Arcana Playtest Packet 6 Video

i see where you are coming from but a long standing excuse is still an excuse. If in 2003 I told you "I run late because my clocks are always off" and every time we meet and I am late I repeat that, in 2023 if you call it an excuse I can't go back and say "nah, I have been saying it since 2003"

D&D 5E (2024) How to reign in full casters for 1D&D? Maybe remove 6th to 9th level spells as a Variant rule.

this is not my original idea, but one I got online and have discussed with my table, what if spells had different recharges. Like if I prep detect magic as a 1st level spell it is at will If I prep speak with animals it is at will BUT both still take a prep slot you can't just know them. then...

D&D 5E (2024) How to reign in full casters for 1D&D? Maybe remove 6th to 9th level spells as a Variant rule.

here is a list from another thread about spells you may need to think and work around https://www.thearcanelibrary.com/blogs/news/how-to-avoid-spells-that-will-derail-your-d-d-game

    D&D 5E (2014) Cantrips, a Curious Thing

This is interesting because the warlock invocations and a high level wizard feature can turn low level spells into at will spells

    D&D 5E (2024) Longsword finesse when used 2H

I do refluff all the time, I just wish to do it less. In my last 4 years of gaming I have seen 2 hexblades, and 3 bards (2 sword 1 valor) refluffed as fighters and a really crazy multi class monk/paliden/hexblade refluffed as a fighter I just wish I didn't have to take spells and call them...

    D&D 5E (2024) Longsword finesse when used 2H

it doesn't have to be a fighter, but I would like a martial character with less magic, and none of the "mind body soul" flavor text worked in.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you see Full Casters played at your Table?

if we count warlocks I have never in 5e seen a game without 2 or more and most times it is a full party of this. We multi class to lower our power levels and extend the game, cause playing 17th level wizards are fun for the party not as much for the DM, but we never all do it.

    D&D 5E (2014) World Building: Army building

Oh boy is this a hard one. The new Dragonlance book has a board game to handle army to army stuff but I don't know anyone happy with it. Not saying there aren't just not in my groups. My best advise is keep everything vague. Giving details gives too much of a shot at calling BS on things...

okay, so the staff should be finesse too right? and unarmed strikes too right?

D&D 5E (2014) World Building: Commerce and gold

I may end up spamming all of your questions with this answer, but it is important. It was a lesson a guy who was a history teacher and a DM gave me. "Do what you want, trust me it works" The long version is to imagine the dumbest most ridicules thing you can. Something no sane or even boarder...

    D&D 5E (2024) Chaosmancer Martial Brews

In strixhaven there are rules for "studying" before a test Each exam has a Study phase which can earn you rerolls to pass the exam, and each exam can grant you Student Dice (d4s) to bolster later skill checks. I want to play around with something like this. Imagine studying with a weapon...

D&D General The Elemental cantrips mimicking powerful spells

These cantrips are mega powerful. Shape water is amazing with just a bit of thought, Mold earth doesn't even need that much thought. You already mentioned control flames being used to improv attacks. A caster with the 4 of them, and the three theatrical ones (Prestidigitation, Thaumaturgy, and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Chaosmancer Martial Brews

Strength makes no sense in D&D. I am in pretty good shape. I unload 30-50lbs boxes once a week at my job. I pick them up carry them about 30ft (more or less) then put them down and empty them one bottle or can at a time. Some times guys will say they will help and try to show off and lift 2 of...

    D&D 5E (2024) Longsword finesse when used 2H

Yeah something like you need a +1 str to use a finesse weapon up to +3 and you need both str and wis of +1/+2 (either can be either) to get up to a +4 from finesse but then if you are useing str you need a +1 dex or wis to get up to a +3 str and you need a +1/+2 dex wis (either can be either)...

    D&D 5E (2024) Longsword finesse when used 2H

TBH I think all weapons should be finesse. It makes sense to me that you need both str and dex and wis (as used in D&D) for all weapon attacks. I had a DM that played with the idea that you had to use the lowest of those 3 stats as an attack stat and that sucked.
