The Chosen: A High Magic 3.5 Homebrew

Feeling exilerated by their triumph, the party decided to explore the rest of the giant cavern. Beyond the stalagmites, the lantern illuminated a fast flowing river at least 10 feet wide. Vernon lit another stone with light and tossed it across the river. A small chorus of clicks greeted him, as...

Help me with my challenges! (My players please stay out)

Here's the setup: my group of six adventurers are going to an adventurer's fair / conference (kind of like a Gencon for adventurers). They've won a qualifier tournament that gives them free entry into the big tournament. What I need is help on a couple different things: - are there any other...

What will my NPC do next?

My thoughts: - initiate a tavern brawl and bribe a guard to make sure the party gets arrested (or get them arrested some other way). When they get arrested of course their items will be taken away from them... - befriend the party. Find some silly quest or job you need done, and then when...

    Honey, I mutated the PCs!

Was there a choice in the matter? Was there any way they could have avoided it if they wanted to? Was there a good reason it happened? Players like to feel they have input. I think some (though not all) roleplayers would get miffed even at getting a super magical item if they had no choice in...

The Chosen: A High Magic 3.5 Homebrew

Chapter IV: Aid Alana March 2 "Wait a second," Errol said. "Let's find out more information before we venture forth." The party went back to the inner city and knocked on Mortenser's door. "Come in," was the response. Mortenser's looked bemusedly at the party and asked how he could help them...

    Starting an FLGS

Disclaimer: I don't own nor have I ever owned a game store. Aside from location issues (which is probably covered under the general starting a small business section), there are a couple of things that I have noticed: - knowledgable or at least friendly staff. This I think is the most...

    Encounter Help

Yeah you could make him like a sarcastic despondant ghost. "Oh look another party of adventurers. Maybe I should run." (bored expression) "Yeah they're hacking at me. Ow! Ow! No really, Ow! It hurts! The steel ripping through my flesh. Oh wait. I don't have any flesh." "That sword looks...

    Tasha's vs Freedom of Movement

Do these interact in any way? We've had a discussion about it in our gaming group. Some argue that tasha's doesn't impede movement per se, it's merely an effect of a condition. Others counter that since it makes you fall prone, unable to move, that it should be covered by freedom of movement...

The Chosen: A High Magic 3.5 Homebrew

OOC Comments for session 3: Shortly before this campaign started, I watched a movie called "The Cube." I thought it would be neat to have something like this in the campaign, but was troubled as this was supposed to be a long term campaign, and I didn't want to kill them all off in session 3...

The Chosen: A High Magic 3.5 Homebrew

(OOC note: explanatory post will follow this. Think of the first section as a cut-scene) Chapter III: The Cube Date Unknown My sleep is troubled; I try to relax but I cannot... My call has been sent, and they answer; they have no choice. I try to concentrate, I must try to speak, to make...

Homebrew – Where did you start?

Well, I think in a good campaign, options will exist for players to either be actors or witnesses. If there is a BBEG and he's intent on conquering the continent, the players can either try to thwart him, ignore him, or even join him! (I'm sure there is probably another option there I haven't...

    How is this plot?

Sounds neat. Some questions, just in case they matter because your PC's might do something unexpected: 1. how does the legal system work? If they kill would-be robbers, are they going to have a bunch of red tape? 2. Similarly, what would happen if they just went to the equivalent of the...

    XP for "defeated" monsters

Hey, could I capture the dragon, release it every day and then beat it to unconsciousness, put it back in the cage, heal it up, and do the same thing again tomorrow? I bet I could level really quickly if I did that. Oh wait, that's Everquest. My bad.

I am horrible with names, please help!

I wouldn't sweat the names too much. Just make something up, and people will get used to it (as long as it's pronouncable). Some ideas (many of which I've used): - Grab a map and look at street names; use any that are interesting. - Take a word or two and swap some syllables. (Business ->...

    Nudity in RPG books?

I voted #1 even though nudity doesn't bother me in any way. I just don't think it's necessary for most RPG books. I liken it in some ways to movies. Sure, you can add nudity to any movie, but it just doesn't fit into most movies. Imagine trying to jam a nude scene into The Matrix or into...

The Chosen: A High Magic 3.5 Homebrew

As the party returned to outer Pavalar, Pippy spotted them. "It's almost the holidays, I have a great gift you can buy! They're called Cherbas... It's a small stone, but if you water it, it will grow fur and begin to talk. You can even teach it tricks and stuff! The cost is only 1 gold!" Vernon...

Taking it all the way as a new DM. Opinions?

I agree with VirgilCaine, it's all about synergy between the DM and the players. If they are willing to work with, then I'd say you should have no problems. If your players start hedging and hem-and-haw-ing (how do you spell/use that term anyways?) then I'd consider running something more canned.

    Barbarian Olympics

My players stay out! It's for your own good, it's nothing super useful to know beforehand, but you'll like it more if it doesn't get spoiled for you. Highlight below to read. Apologies to everyone else, it's just that this is coming very soon for my campaign and I think it will be fun if they...

Homebrew – Where did you start?

Mine came from a minor point in a book I read. I thought it was really neat (though it was almost inconsequential in terms of the actual book), so I thought more about that aspect, and eventually my idea was born. From there came the world and races. From there I made a map and a custom...
