Wouldn't that be nice? Like I said above, I still feel folks are treating this thread as an excuse to bash on traditional games and the people who like them, because they find folks who aren't interested in non-traditional techniques "exhausting". It's right there in the OP.

Mostly agree, but I'm not sure where "the module" comes into it.

But "I like simulation and prep" is part of the preference. You have to accept the whole thing as a preference, not pick it apart because some parts are like your preference and other parts aren't.

For some reason there are folks who can't just accept the idea of different strokes.

Disagree. 4e was explicitly less traditional than any official D&D game before or since, both mechanically and in the lore. It wouldn't be so divisive otherwise.

And we're back to preference. Seriously, is there anyone here who is unclear about the idea being discussed, or all we all just advocating for our point of view? What's the point of that?

How would the rat thing make sense in the fiction? Give me a good explanation and I'll consider it. The bottom line of course is what we've covered before. You and I have very different preferences and expectations of play and are not going to enjoy the same things. For some reason, everyone...

Way to tell people they don't GM hard enough for your liking.

    Oh yes. Spiritual ancestor.

That's not exactly any more "narrative friendly" than the existing system. By which I mean that it still makes the fiction pretty stilted.

I don't think official D&D can fix it. Too many factors pushing for more PC power and more flash. You'll have to look to other publishers for your design innovations.

Awful lot of D&D before 4e (and games inspired by D&D before 4e). But I agree that how many DMs do anything in particular is not a relevant factor.

It was a lockpicking check, not a stealth check.

Not the way I've seen it. There's a limit to how many of any given creature is available to run into on the move. Or at least IMO there should be.

Maybe if you hit the DC exactly? I've seen that as an optional rule.

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

Superhero games tend to hit narrative conventions pretty heavily. That's why they're an exception to my usual preferences.

Maybe, but it's a reasonable response to what you wrote.

You think wanting terms to accurate reflect what they mean is funny?

Because I prefer games where the player's choices don't affect the world beyond what their PC can do.

I would never run a game where the player's choices were determine by anything other than the player, so I don't see how that complaint would have merit.
