D&D 5E (2014) Need advice on how to reward 1 character but not whole party.

Generally, demonic pacts give the reward upfront(the rewards probably were given during the character's backstory), and the "payment" required for these rewards is left somewhat ambiguous. Usually, you're not off the hook for doing one thing for them. The demon should keep using the character...

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

How I would have done it: Eliminate the Hidden status, and grant all of it's benefits to Heavily Obscured. A successful Hide check upgrades you from being Lightly Obscured to being Heavily Obscured. 1/2 cover counts as lightly obscured, 3/4s cover counts as heavily obscured.

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

As long as there's enough hiding spots around, a rogue can do this without violating common sense. You get an action, a move, and a bonus action every round. If you use your action to make your sneak attack, then move somewhere, and use your bonus action to hide, you can basically flit around...

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

The PHB isn't clear on this. One thing it is clear on: you need to be Heavily Obscured to hide, unless you have a character feature that says otherwise. I'm personally of the belief that 3/4s cover should grant you at least Lightly Obscured, but the rules don't say either way. I'd probably...

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

It's not your English skills that are the barrier. It's WotC's English skills that are the problem here. :)

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

Nearest thing I can find to it in 5e is the Supreme Sneak feature of the rogue, which actually gives advantage when they stealth at half speed. Which would seem to suggest that they can in fact stealth at full speed. Otherwise I agree with your analysis. It's pretty similar to what I came up...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

I actually kinda prefer Rogue+Outlander for this(though multiclassing some fighter levels in wouldn't hurt). Reliable Talent would apply to all of your outdoorsy/stealth/perception skills. Cunning Action makes you a very good hit and run combatant. A dip into fighter would improve your chosen...

Pathfinder 1E What's this, then, Paizo? ANOTHER video game? By Obsidian?

KOTOR2 was okayish. They were in the unfortunate position of having to follow up KOTOR, which imo, is one of the greatest single player rpgs of all time. They didn't meet that mark, but that's not surprising. Almost nobody has made a game as good as KOTOR. Neverwinter Nights 2, was again...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

Had something kinda snarky here, and thought better of it. My bad.

D&D 5E (2014) Dwarves: too good as fighters?

The fighter doesn't look very tanky to me in 5th. You are better off using your resources on things that will allow you to kill stuff faster, imho. If I was going to build a tank, it would be a Barbarian Totem Warrior(bear features).

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

The ranger looks pretty underwhelming to me. Why did they insist on making it a caster? They could have went the Eldritch Knight route and made casting optional, and they probably should have given how many people like their rangers to be martial rather than magic. As is, it appears you can...

D&D 5E (2014) Which classes will you play first?

Thief rogue looks pretty good to me. Battlemaster fighter is also something I'll probably try early on, but that one will be DM dependant for me: how often do I get a short rest? Normally the first character I play in any version of D&D is an elf ranger. On my first read through of the 5e...

    D&D 5E (2014) Elves subrace?

And a note: The Drow weakness specifically mentions sunlight. It doesn't say "light as bright as sunlight" or anything of the like. It seems to be specifically referring to light from the sun(or, as Dasuul points out, spells that actually create sunlight). One further note: The weakness...

    D&D 5E (2014) Elves subrace?

High Elf, Wood Elf, Drow Elf are your choices. Wild Elf is noted as an alternate name for Wood Elf that is used in the Forgotten Realms(as is Forest Elf and Green Elf).

Barbarian killing machine with TWF and multiclassing?

Two weapon fighting gives you a bonus action that you use for an offhand attack. The berserker barbarian at level 3 gains a bonus action while raging that you use for an attack. Note: you can only use one bonus action per round, no matter the source. You are far better off using that bonus...

    D&D 5E (2014) Elves subrace?

The answer to this appears to be no. The Drow weakness is specifically to sunlight, and Daylight doesn't specifically create sunlight. I could see a DM ruling that the daylight spell creates sunlight, but with rules as written it does not.

    D&D 5E (2014) Elves subrace?

Drow are in the PHB. +1 Cha, 120 feet darkvision, sunlight sensitivity(disadvantage on attack rolls and perception checks when in direct sunlight), drow spells 1/day, and slightly different weapon proficiencies. The sunlight sensitivity is actually a pretty nasty drawback, and I'd be hesitant...

    D&D 5E (2014) Moar Feats

Dude, Dungeon Delver would be the bomb under any DM I've ever gamed with. My experience while playing a rogue/thief has always been: Every door you check for traps, is in fact trapped. Every door you don't check for traps, is in fact trapped twice(trap on both the lock and the knob). Be sure...

Colin McComb issues apology for the Complete Book of Elves

This is pretty hilarious(and I'm not a fan of the Complete Book of Elves). If he adds a new stretch goal to apologize for the previous apology I'm in for 10 bucks, and I don't even know what this kickstarter is for!

4th edition, The fantastic game that everyone hated.

I'm a powergamer. Was long before the CharOp forum existed. I'm also a roleplayer. When I design a character, I only have a very vague idea of what it is before I start in on the mechanics. The roleplay aspects of the character form more solidly as the mechanics do. I don't decide to create...
